Doing a kitchen renovation and am buying new appliances. Having a real hard time narrowing it down. Any feedback on LG vs GE vs Kitchenaid vs Frigidaire.

stainless steel

Counter depth, french door fridge with external dispenser
dishwasher 3rd rack, stainless steel tub
gas range - leaning towards slide in but could go with freestanding
The only thing i know for sure is that I am going with a Sharp microwave drawer.

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

We went with the kitchenaid counter depth french door fridge but water on the inside. I love the clean front of the fridge and it has an awesome ice maker inside the freezer! Went with the Cafe dishwasher (stainless tub and 3rd rack also has a 2nd rack that moves up and down) and it's my favorite appliance we have. Got the Cafe slide in range too but we have electric and I'm not impressed with it. We have the bosch microwave drawer (made by sharp I believe) and it works well but I thought I would love it. I used the kitchenaid pull down door microwave in my sister's house (it's in her island too) last month and I would prefer that over the drawer if I had the choice again.

We put in a French door refrigerator with cold water inside the door rather than an outside dispenser. Our appliance store does its own repairs and they said the most common repair in the first year for a refrigerator is the outside ice and water dispensers. Because the dispenser is in the fridge area, the ice can melt slightly as it comes through and then refreeze - causing a jam. Not so much of a problem for the side by side because the dispenser can be in the freezer side. This is the first time we have had a dispenser of any kind so we gained a convenience. Might have felt differently if we went from an outside to an inside dispenser. Would be interested to hear people’s experience with the dispensers in the door.

We bought our counter depth Frigidaire Gallery FGHC2342LF model at Lowes for $1200 we love it. It's very attractive and works well. We like the in door ice and water dispenser. Previously we had a Samsung RSG257AARS at our previous condo (sold with the condo). It was similar in form and function but cost $2400. So far we are just as happy with the less expensive fridge but we have not owned it very long so I can't speak to longevity. For dishwashers, I will never again buy a Whirlpool or any line made by the same company (that includes now Maytag, Frigidaire, and Kitchen Aide, possibly a few more!). We had a Whirlpool "Gold" dishwasher in our previous home, the motherboard died at 13 months of age - only 1 month out of warranty! Whirlpool would do nothing for us, not even offer us a discount on a future appliance or the part. The replacement part was $250 plus installation labor. Apparently the same motherboard is used in all the dishwashers made by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Maytag, KA, etc. and it is notorious for failing. We chose to replace the Whirlpool with an entry level Bosch SHE43P05UC dishwasher, on sale at a local specialty appliance store for $600. I loved that dishwasher, I wish we could have taken it with us when we sold the place! Stainless inside and out, beautiful, whisper quiet, and everything came out clean, even with very hard water, every time. The Bosch warranty is 1 year complete and 5 years for parts including electronics/motherboard (which makes me feel better about the quality of the electronics). So when we bought our current home it came with a cheap-looking Frigidaire. It's "stainless look" which next to real stainless just looks silly. Anyway it stopped draining and it appears the pump is dead, and the part and labor to replace it is not worth it for a dishwasher that was not great to begin with. So I am at home today awaiting the delivery of our new Bosch SHE3AR56UC, this time in white, but still stainless inside, where it counts. Our cabinets are white so with the stainless version costing about $150 more, we opted for white this time to blend in with the cabinets. We had a Whirlpool Gold range at the old place and the new place also came with a Whirlpool range. Ours is entry level and just OK. We'll replace it some day but Whirlpool ranges seem OK based on my experience. We have an LG washer again model WM2650HWA (we had LG also at the previous home - so happy with it we bought another) and a Hotpoint cheap dryer. I didn't want to pay more for a fancy matching dryer since we didn't need to stack it- this one dries just fine! But I did want the front loading water efficient washer for 2 reasons - it is on the second floor and if the washer ever leaks, FL's have much less water in them so a disastrous flood is not as likely. Also water is expensive in CA and saving water is important, and after the $150 in rebates the LG on sale was actually cheaper than a top loader. This model WM2650HWA has steam and gets things nice and clean, they also solved the issue of smelly washers by putting a magnetic seal on the door so that when not in use it stays slightly open to dry, without endangering children or pets. It seems to me that you can't just choose one brand for each appliance, few brands make quality items for different applications. So you may want to gather some info on each type of appliance and find the best deal/quality rather than looking for a matched set. They tend to look the same once installed as long as the finish is all real stainless (some are just "stainless look" which is metallic painted plastic and I'd rather have white than that!)

Some additional considerations to weigh in making your choices. If you go with with a slide-in induction range. Both the GE and Bosch have full-power (2000 watt) elements for the convection functions. (Most ranges and wall ovens use 300-watt convection elements and mostly use the bottom element.) The GE slide-in (PHS920) often can be found discounted, which means (depending on where you shop) you might be able to get it for $500 to $600 less than the Bosch HIIP054U. The GE has a significantly bigger oven cavity (i.e., greater usable depth and more usable height) while the Bosch has more usuable space on the stovetop. (The GE's angled front control panel eats some space.) The GE's stovetop has two identical 8" medium/large burners on the left which makes it easy to use a burner spanning rectangular griddle (say, for pancakes) or deglazing large roasting pans. (However, for griddles, you have to be picky because you've only got a lttle over 19" of depth to work with). The Bosch does not have the length limitation but it's two "in-line" burners are different sizes, The two left hand burners on the Bosch are a 9" diameter and a 6" diameter, so harder to get even heating, plus a wide pan (say a roasting pan) may overlap ino the area of the 11"central burner, and that could be a problem when you have other pans on the range. You can pull hot baking pans out of the oven and set them down on the GE's stovetop without worrying about laying them on the control surface. With the Bosch having the burner control panel on top of the stove, I would worry about damaging it if I were to, say, accidentally put a very hot pizza pan or broiler pan on it. (This might be paranoia from issues with older induction ranges.) The Bosch has individual burner timers which can be very handy for recipes that require fairly precise times (as with pressure cookers, for example, or rice). The two stoves have different ergonomics for the burner and oven controls. I don't know that one is better than the other, but you may have preferences. So, a good idea to check out the onine copies of the manual and, if possible, see the stoves in person. Cooktops: The Bosch and GE have different burner layouts. One may appeal to you more than the other. If you can find display models, take some pans you often use together and see how well they fit. The Bosch has timer controls for the burners, Refrigerators: For the last two or three years, GE has been making its own fridges. (It "on-shored" its production to new factories in Kentucky). That seems to have helped with past reliability problems. Keep that in mind when reading reviews. When Bosch first started selling fridges here several years ago -- source of the product unknown to me --- there were some pretty negative comments here about unreliability within months of purchase. The current Bosch FD fridges are rebadged Whirlpools (IIRC, outfitted similarly to Whirlpool's kitchenaid models.) That may help with your research. Dishwasher: Didn't see this on your list. Are we correct to assume that already has been selected? Range Hood: Already selected, as well? Washer & Dryer: Can't help with this. Sorry. You might try posting in the Laundry forum.

Highly recommend not leaving all on counter or placing them discreetly so they don’t distract. We also have open concept and tue only visible small appliance is our toaster. Coffee maker tucked around the corner and all else in corner cabinet.

abclatham, thank you. Our Kenmore, which we have had for 17 years has an inside water dispenser. Love the fridge but don't love the dispenser inside. Only reason we are changing is b/c we are upgrading to Stainless Steel. With everything backordered we might be using these for a while longer 😆

I have all GE Profile appliances. The fridge is a french door counter depth with the water on the inside. I like the clean look and also no mess of water getting all over the floor. My range is a dual fuel. Dishwasher has 2 racks but can adjust up or down for larger pieces. The microwave is OTR. The appliances are 7 years old. We have had no issues with them. I clean them with Stainless Steel Magic (the best IMO).

Here's a review I did on a GE Profile counter-depth fridge (PYE22KSKS). I also have a GE Profile slide in range (PGS930SEL1SS). Love them both. I'd venture to say most here like Bosch for DW but see also the thread about "stays wet inside". I love my Bosch DW.

Almost all ranges are slide-ins today. Just fill the gap with a 'filler' like this .

Purchased the GE Counter-depth fridge PYE22KSKSS end of May, 2018.

Pros:

I love this fridge.

Quiet. Hums a bit when "active" but perfectly fine. Surprised when I see 'noisy' in other reviews.

Lighting is great, can really see everything you have. Things got lost in my old side-by-side.

Front is magnetic

Well thought out layout. Drop-down tray a nice add as is the small shelf in freezer door.

Autofill tray slides out to 5-1/2" - should accomodate an 8" pot.

Made in USA - better support (at least in my area - central Calif)

Cons:

Smudges but cleans up easily with a good stainless cleaner.

Top freezer drawer a bit wobbly. I read a few washers in the right-side gear can resolve this (untried). Not a problem for me.

Door alarm doesn't work if door only slightly ajar. Alarm is a bit soft even on high.

Other:

Do not block the square hole on left in the drawer in the fridge - this will cause freezing in the fridge. Blocking the hole confuses the evaporators.

My vegetables last much, much longer now.

After 6 months the water filter will not pass water or make ice unless replaced with a genuine GE replacement. Simply call GE and request a Water Filter Bypass (WR17X23645) free from GE (also on Amazon). There's also a hack to use the RFID chip from this bypass to allow use of 3rd-party filters (Google it).

The "TwinChill� Evaporators" are a nice feature. According to Consumer Reports (April 2018):

"Another feature we�ve seen more of in our labs is dual evaporators � one for the fresh food compartment and another for the freezer � instead of just one in the freezer that has to cool both sections. Our tests conirm that dual evaporators are better at maintaining optimal humidity in both sections. They also prevent odors from migrating between compartments, keeping ice cubes from tasting like fish and other smelly foods."
