tl1969, because the patterns in my slabs were so varied the L section could have been a hot mess had I left it up to the fabricator. I have found in my whole reno, if you do not explicitly express something to your contractor, electrician, cabinet guy etc, they use their discretion when a situation arises, instead of asking your preference. I could go on about these type of incidences/absurd decisions. So I made sure to tell the fabricator that I will be stopping by the shop to make the selections of where the cuts will be made. How to handle the corner L was a concern since the pattern went from squiggly lines to marble like flow. Anyhow, from the two slabs left for the perimeter, I chose a section with the least amount of movement for the corner seam. We then used the rest for the other 2 perimeter pieces as they are independent of the other counters. It worked out, thankfully. BTW, advise your guy that he will blow through many blades on the quartzite. It's very hard. He should have extras on hand. My guy went through 4 diamond blades. At about $200 a piece he wasn't happy. BTW that WM is drop dead gorg! I think I like it better than the other one. Firsthouse, we have made progress since these pics, but not near ready to move in. I'll take new pics Tues and will post.

A single slab of something with that much linear pattern will be a crazy quilt of non matching seams in any but the tiniest of kitchens. Most kitchens require a 2 slab purchase, and use 1 1/2 of them. A stone with a challenging pattern match will use most of 2-3 bookmatched slabs to get those seams looking just right. Sometimes the leftovers are enough to use in small spots like a hall vanity. It depends on how the cut needs to happen. Only 1 slab is going to be suspect to have poor seaming until proven otherwise.

i am a fabricator for 20 some years and have never even heard of it being done that way. Additionally, that "sandwich" is providing zero structural support to the overhang. I can't tell from your pics how large the overhang is but if its the typical 12 or so inches you need robust structural support particularly on a brittle stone like quartzite. This was no doubt an expensive island; you should insist on corrective action.

We're mid-kitchen reno and our quartzite countertops were installed today. Initially, I was ecstatic, they looked great. But as I got closer, I noticed significant discoloration along the edges primarily around the sink, on the overhang/lip of the island, and where the counter meets the wall. The discoloration looks like gray blobs. The installers left an hour ago so it's 100% nothing we did. I went to the fabricator less than two weeks ago to confirm the layout and the slabs were perfect. Google says maybe it's adhesive stains. I've been reading other questions/forums but most are about staining/discoloration after use which isn't the case here. Wondering if anyone has any idea what could be going on. Is this standard post-installation and easy to fix? God, I hope so. I have a note out to the contractor and fabricator but hoping to get some answers so I can sleep tonight.
