Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

Do I need to incorporate the fridge with my cabinetry?

Hi, We are about to move forward with a partial kitchen remodel. We previously moved our fridge into our former pantry space, and it is now next to the end of our cabinetry and surrounded by drywall. We have the option to add a cabinet above it because the space behind the drywall is empty. Should we do that to satisfy aesthetics? We don't think we need the extra storage space, but we would consider adding it for aesthetics. Would it need to match up with the cabinet above the ovens? We could look into raising that one to match. Additionally, we plan to use filler above the existing cabinets to take them to the ceiling and add detail with crown. We could extend that to the eat in area housing the fridge. Photos are in the comments below.

Do you have your refrigerator there because it is too large to fit at the end of your cupboards where it is supposed to be.....where you have the white double door cabinet? If it must be there, I would build cabinets around it to match your others. And also build more cabinets where the white double door cabinet is now.

Wow, thanks for the information- I've never had that kind of luck with getting ModPodge to harden. You may very well be right-- it could be it was either too damp or not warm enough in the house. The nice thing about sealing over ModPodge or other glue products is that if you get enough layers over it, the decoupage has a sort of recessed/inlaid feel to it. Love that tile and a pretty cabinet. We drink wine quite a bit. I didn't have room to put this in our kitchen. Someday, I might put one in our wine cellar aka basement. One nice thing about a Michigan basement- it stays cool year round. We do have a floor, so officially doesn't qualify as a true Michigan basement. We do have a nice rack to hold the wine I think part of the mystique of the wine experience is going underground and choosing just the right wine for the occassion. I stratify the wines based on quality so when DH goes hunting for a mid priced wine, he doesn't bring up a bottle of the best for pizza! Beagles- good to see you are still chiming in. I had a friend in a similar situation, but a different fridge height. She went to a really good local appliance store and they removed a piece of trim from one of the fridges to get that crucial half-inch! So examine everything that's removable, like feet, trim, etc. Then the delivery guys measured again before they slid it in. (I know from experience with this store that they would have taken everything back, no charge.)

Update: I posted elsewhere but it's not showing up. Basically, they redid it and it's still wrong! I'll copy my post here. New construction, but kitchen is completely finished. The frigadaire all fridge all freezer was to be built in with trim kit. They made the hole wrong. Supposed to be 25 1/4" deep MINIMUM. They did 24". The front of the counter is 25 1/4 but they have it flush with the cabinets. Supposed to be 66" wide. They did 67 7/8". Supposed to be 75" or 79". They did 79 1/8". They aren't willing to take out cabinets and redo soffit and such. The width I think can be fixed by taking out fillers and bringing the broom cabinet on the end in. The height isn't off much, maybe can have a filler put in between top of fridge and under cabinets. But what do we do about the depth? How can we make the front look right? They basically said if we come up with an idea on how to fix it and they do it, we are stuck with whatever they do, whether we like the end result or not.

Yes the fridge was too large. That little cabinet is temporary. As part of the remodel we are putting a built in pull out pantry in that space where the temporary little white cabinet currently is.

I am assuming then that cabinetry will match the others. You might as well surround the fridge. Maybe center it and have cabinetry on the e tire wall.

Have you checked the specs for your fridge? It doesn't look like a built-in model, and I don't see an air gap. Fridges generate heat, which needs to be able to escape, or you can shorten the life of the fridge and increase your energy consumption,

Latifolia, thanks for your concern. We've had the fridge (Samsung) serviced under warranty for a control board issue and it was fine in this location. There is enough clearance at the back and above. See this thread if you would like more information!
