Chris is correct (as usual!) - it is Daphne laureola, a common introduced weedy/invasive shrub in this area. It looks a bit like euphorbia, hence the common name but it is an evergreen shrub that can get to a pretty good size. No scent, pale green flowers that are barely noticeable and berries that are spread readily by birds. It is a class B noxious weed in WA state. Removal is suggested.

Okay, the general consensus is that the middle shrub is indeed a sand cherry. Good to know. I've googled all your suggestions, and Moni, the abelia has larger flowers. McMann, I'm pretty sure it's not a winterberry holly. Ronf, you're very close, I think. Not a regular cotoneaster, but perhaps a hedge cotoneaster, as it is round and is growing up, rather than out like the other ones. So that just leaves the top one. The flowers look like lilac but the leaves are quite different. They are not smoothe, but veiny and are not heart-shaped like lilacs. So what do you think? Laurel
