I can only speak to the BM whites...White Dove is OC-17 They do NOT have a Dove White. But, to confuse you more, they DO have a Dove Wing which is OC-18. From my experience, some manufacturers (like BM) use the name White Dove. Others use Dove White. And in my experience, they are not the same color. I have the BM color book in front of me now but am looking at the one called "Color Preview" and I was in the store yesterday and they do carry 2 other books.

I've wondered too and I think most whites, or at least white's that aren't really stark have some "undercolor". I think you get, yellow, green, blue, pink or grey. I bought a house with white walls with a grey undertone and didn't realize till I repainted with a white with a yellow undertone years later. I liked it so much more, the grey undertone I thought was depressing. I think the yellow undertone gives you that old fashioned "linen" look. I also tend to really dislike a pink undertone and find blue makes me feel cold (ice cubes anyone?) which might be a benefit in a bedroom as I like to sleep in a room on the cool side. I prefer the yellow and green undertones myself but thats just personal preference. Might be a question for a paint store person.

Yes, Gentle Cream is significantly lighter than MT. I have been looking at pictures of really bright/sunny rooms that are painted a very light color and I'm liking that look. Very calm and soothing. Many of the other rooms near this room have color - green in kitchen, red in living room, gold in dining room. So, I wanted to go with something more neutral in this room. Trim will be painted BM Vanilla Ice Cream (a creamy white). Not too much contrast against the walls, but that is also what I am going for. Thanks, sayde. I did look at Stone House. I had helped a friend pick that color. It looks great in her house. Not so great in my house. And, I've been through many, many other BM colors. Eliminated them all for one reason or another -- too pink, too green, too yellow, too something. I don't have the luxury of saying it's just paint and I can redo it if I don't like it. This room is very large with catherdral ceilings and I cannot paint it myself. So, this is my one shot to get the color right, and it's very difficult.

I can tell you that Silver Satin OC-26, Balboa Mist OC-27, Collingwood OC- 28, and Classic Gray OC-23 aren't white. DLM is right, we'll be throwing names of BM whites at you for a while because there are a lot but it's all anecdotal. :( Perhaps a paint expert will chime in with colour values, chroma, etc. Are these whites for trim or walls? My suggestions: Oxford White (CC-30) doesn't get mentioned often but it's always struck me as an easy to live with white with no discernible undertones. Chantilly Lace (OC-65) - nice bright white that only reads cool in the winter months for me (south-western exposure, northern latitude). Simply White (OC-117) - as iamtiramisu mentioned, it reads creamy not stark. If you lean towards tans, beiges and taupes for decor, I think this would be a good choice. Decorator's White ()C-149) reads grey to me in natural light. Would not be my first pic for a warm-toned decor palette. Same thing with White (OC-151). It's a very cool white. Not familiar with China White. Another to consider (sorry): Cotton Balls (OC-122). Between Bavarian Cream and Mountain Peak White on the colour strip. Reads a touch or two warmer than my Chantilly Lace walls. LRV of 90.67 so bright. Does your BM store not have an on-site colour consultant? ETA: If you're going for white walls, I would pick the same white for trim and walls. Use semi-glossy for trim and eggshell for walls. Why break your head trying to find a second white?
