Help with Reading room / Library decor and furniture arrangement?
Comments (36)First of all, your color scheme is perfect for a reading room. I say that because that is almost exactly the color scheme in DH's man cave, and it's cozy and inviting. Have you considered shelving on brackets for the walls flanking the fireplace and the short walls perpendicular to those walls? That will give you plenty of bookshelf space without conflicting with the mantel or heating vents. You could put a door stop on the French door to limit the swing. How often do you use the French doors to the living room? Can they be blocked with easily movable furniture so that you can make use of the space in front of the doors but allow for the doors to be opened without too much of a hassle when needed? Here's a suggested layout. I included two Leathercraft chairs and ottomans that are comfortable and small scale enough so that you can fit two in the room. They're not cheap, though. But fhey do have wheels, so they are movable. The H&M reading chair and ottoman are much larger, and you could only fit one ottoman with two chairs. Comments (13)Annie, is right. If you want 'water' add the resin 'variety'. I wouldn't spend big bucks for something so simple, $39.99, max, but i've been doing my own arrangements for years, for family/friends too. Even a coule of weddings where I did use *real* Eucalyptus for a winter wedding. I saved it and when it dried made an arrangement and gave it to my Sis. It will last for years, but the smell may deminish slightly over time....See MoreFamily room needing help on arrangment and functional decor
Comments (14)How about facing your two couches and put the chair facing the TV? Then you could have a play area behind one of the couches with a rug to play on. The couch would sort of separate the play area from the TV area and easy to put the toys away. I remember when we had two little boys and how they "helped" me put their things away. An end table or two with lamps and you home will look nice. I do agree that your TV is high but maybe that is the best place for it....See MoreHelp please!! Cannot figure out how to arrange/decorate my living room
Comments (38)Placing a couch centered on the fireplace is going to leave little room to walk thru that area....but maybe that's ok... I really don't know. Unless you replace your current furniture with new pieces that are about the same size, and in the same place, you may be changing the traffic paths in the room. That's why, once you have an idea of what you want, you should move your existing furniture to the way it will be in the future, so that you will know whether you like the new arrangement, before you commit. 30 feet is long, but 13 feet is not really a narrow space for a living room. It's pretty normal. My guess is that your house originally had 2 rooms side by side in that space. If you think the space is tight, look for chairs and sofas that are not as deep, back to front. There can be a big difference. Your brown recliner is very deep. Apartment style furniture can be just as comfortable. Having a foot of padding at the back of a chair doesn't really make it more comfortable - it's just a style. You don't sink back a foot when you sit down. Here is my mock up of where the traffic path would be if you have a U shaped conversation area in front of the fireplace and TV. I gave you an ottoman instead of a coffee table in front of the sofa. And I made the upholstered furniture about 4 feet deep....See Morealways1stepbehind
