I was going to wait until everything opened back up, but I couldn't stand it any longer....no pun intended. My hair is very thick and being outside all the time, it was so hot. Got it very short again, but short haircuts don't last very long. Almost time to go again. I wish I could cut my own hair. My husband cuts his own, but his hair is curly and it hides any flaws. He just grabs hunks and lops it off. I think he has had 2 store bought haircuts in the last 40 years.

I wish I could cut my own too, or even color it. I used to (both) but its been many many years. My high school graduation year book photo is a self cut and color - it's not awful, and I used to cut my Mom's, other friends.

I've been in twice since restrictions were mandated. I just went last week. Quite comfortable with it - I've known my stylist many years. It was just the two of us in the shop, temp taken and both of us in masks. I was her first appt of the day the first time, and waited outside until she had finished her client last week. She just works 3 or 4 (sometimes long) days a week and is booked out a full 6 weeks ahead. I have my appt for 6 weeks from now.

DH changed shops with the virus. He'd been threatening to ask our neighbor with a small shop to cut his hair and I was discouraging him. She'd never cut his hair, I know she likes him, and I was afraid she wouldn't want to break the rules but not want to tell him No. So he waited but is now going to her. He walks down the trail from our bedroom to his appointments and plans to continue to go to her even though he's paying a little more. And, he complained more loudly than I did during the months we went without hair care.

*I'm editing what I typed earlier today because it sounds a little weird if someone has never been here ;0) walks down the trail from our bedroom. House is a stretched out single story MCM/ranch. A semi wooded neighborhood. Our lot is an acre and very steep in the back, there is a (private) trail with stairs (ours) to the street below. That street has only two homes. One of them is the neighbor who is a stylist with a small shop ;0) I realize not everyone has trails to their bedrooms.

I finally broke down and went two weeks ago. I was not happy about doing it even though we were the only two people in the shop. My neighbor goes to the same person and she told me our hairdresser said I was her only regular who had not returned. I E-mailed her that I just wasn't there yet and I have heart problems which makes me more vulnerable than the average old person. :-)))) Finally, I was afraid I would grab the scissors again and hack away so decided I'd better go while she had something to work with. I usually go every 5 weeks but told her when I left, I don't know when I will be back. Probably when I can't stand it anymore.

I got the scissors and cut my hair where I could reach it. Finally had a good haircut back in April or May. She told me she had to really cut it short to even up my cutting mistakes. I liked it, but 3 weeks ago, didn't get a decent cut from the same gal.

I'm happy for you, Lucille. I'm having the opposite experience. My first few "selfie" haircuts went pretty well. Maybe I got cocky, but lately I don't seem to be able to do anything to fix the mess my hair is in. The other possibility is maybe I just don't care. My solution is to avoid mirrors.

My hair grows very slowly, it's thin and fine. I haven't had a cut since January. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of going to the salon yet. Worse comes to worse, my husband can trim it for me. He cuts his own hair.

I have a new hobby . Mentioned before that I had never taken a snip of hair during all these years. My cut is pixie and it has become very easy to cut. At this time I have no plans on going back to a professional for a while. Cut about every three weeks . At first I was cutting the back myself, but I taught hubs to help in back and that made much easier. Very happy with my results. We are trying very hard to stay safe. Used the same stylist for years and loved every cut. I decided to send her a check for the amount I would normally pay. She wrote a beautiful thank you letter to us. Works for me, when I cut my hair I share with her. Just simply paying it forward and I am having so much fun with the scissors.

I'd rather cut my own hair...and hubs. Looks fine.

I recommend a number four guide on the shears. Saves on shampoo and no hairbrush required. ;-P

I've been cutting my own hair for years and am ambidextrous enough (with the use of left-handed scissors for my left hand) to cut both sides evenly.

However, I made the decision to allow my hair to grow during the pandemic, sort of in support for those who have trouble cutting their own hair.

The first month or two it felt uncomfortable, but after it got to a certain length, I got used to it, and now I want to see where it will go. I haven't changed hairstyles in quite a few years, and so I thought now would be a good time to do so.

I have lots of dreams in which I have very long hair, but in actuality, I only had long hair from 1969 to 1975. When I did get it cut shorter, my hairdresser gave me a Dorothy Hamill wedge, which was popular at the time, and that was easy to maintain, or at least it looked good when it was growing out.

Lars, I am left handed ,”back in the day” it was hard to find left hand shears. Thankful I have great left-handed scissors for sewing, and left-handed for hair cutting. Struggled in school with right hand wooden desk, and right-handed scissors in homemaking classes. I may have missed my calling in life. I was a CPA , now in my eighties love cutting hair. Have to realize I am only experienced for two clients, hubs and mine.

I’m jealous of those of you who can cut your own hair. My hair is straight so any mistake shows. I had a cut and color four weeks ago but I should have told her to cut it shorter. It’s already making me crazy sticking to my neck and brushing my shoulders. I wear it in a ponytail every day. I’m not due for another cut for two more weeks and I may wait longer than that. I guess I’d rather have the ponytail in the hot, humid weather.

My last hair cut was on 3/11 down in Connecticut. It felt good for up to about three months being someone with the forethought to have it done just prior to shut down. It is now 8/12, and I want to cut it. The good part is I can tie it back in a tiny 2-3 inch ponytail during our heat wave (I have no a/c), but it really doesn't look good. Not counting when it is in this mini pony tail, as I'm not planning on seeing anyone but the chickens today.

I've cut bangs in the past, but I've now decided to grow them out. Why not?

I'm cutting my bangs only. I wouldn't attempt the rest. I don't feel comfortable about going to a salon. My hair is getting pretty long but I don't like long gray hair so I did color it myself. I use the kind that washes away after 28 shampoos

I went to the salon today for the first time since March 9. I was impressed, they are following the same protocols as my dentist! (Except I didn't have to rinse with hydrogen peroxide.) They did raise the price by just a few dollars which I was expecting. Made my next appointment for 2 months as I left. And oh, it feels good to have my hair style back.

hallngarden, I would not be able to cut the hair on the left side of my head with my left hand if I did not have left-handed scissors, but oddly enough, I can use the left-handed scissors with my right hand. Of course this would not be the case with fabric, where precision is more important than it is with hair.

To some extent, I cut my hair by touch/feel, and so I don't really need to see the shears that well, but I still cannot cut my hair with my left hand without using left-handed scissors.

What was tricky at first was when I first starting cutting my hair with my left hand and was looking into two mirrors, to see the back. If you do not think that is tricky, try it yourself😵, just as an experiment! I'm used to it now, but it took practice for me.

I've been cutting my own hair for decades after I got a botched job. It's a blunt cut bob and I have worn this style for many years. My daughter does trim up the neck for me. I cut it about once a month.

There are more protocols at my hair salon than at the grocery store! My DH trimmed my hair in April which my beautician had to FIX in May. I had sectioned off my hair so he could layer. If you are really concerned, go in and leave with wet hair.
