VERY narrow/small entryway!

Hi everyone,

I am at a loss for ideas to decorate my super narrow/tiny entryway to make it look bigger! I know I need a mirror (no sure of dimensions, direction ...etc) and maybe a small photo gallery and a shelf. Maybe too ambitious? The only thing I got is this runner from Ruggable! Dimensions are 8’3” by 3’8” and the ceiling height is roughly 8’3”, and we will be getting a petrol blue door to replace the white one!

I've attached photos to also show how it leads right to the bedrooms (narrow hallway as well) and left to the living space (open living room/dinning/kitchen).

I am not sure you can make it appear much larger. And a mirror needs something to reflect to be effective. I vote for simple. Here is my front hall and it is about the same size. I have framed photographs on each side. They are my own work and the plan was to change them out periodically but I have been too lazy.

The outside of the door is painted Fabulous Grape and I tried painting the inside as well, but it just didn't look as good as I expected. The plain white works for me. I love my door, last year the Trick-or-treaters had a big time looking in the low windows....

IMO a great piece of art will make the space feel bigger than any mirror will and a more interesting door would also work better.

Anaiades, Hi! I'm new as of today here myself and will be seeking opinions and suggestions for my, soon to be former, galley kitchen. Mine is similar to yours, but not as narrow (8'8" x 12'10"). As I will be closing an entrance at the rear of my kitchen I will be designing a "U" shape kitchen. Perhaps this is something you might consider as well. Plus, you can keep the work triangle of your kitchen space. Does the current setup allow for a dining table in the same space? If so, will you be doing the same? What are your ideas for the space? Do you have a side-by-side fridge now? If not, consider one as the shorter doors will obstruct the travel area between counters less. Just a few thouhts anyway. Laurence

With black and white tiles you don't have to use black or white grout, you can choose a dark gray that will have less issues with dirt and staining. Also, depending on the style of your home, you could consider some natural stone. I don't have a picture, but I used Ostrich Gray Slate/Quartzite in my entry and I love it. It's a natural stone with a lot of pattern in gray/charcoal/black and it's honed smooth. The dark gray grout never looks dirty. (I have the same tile and grout in my mud room/laundry room too.)

Sorry no pics, but my elderly neighbor has about a 15' Mango tree with the smallest most narrow pencil thin leaves I've ever seen on a Mango tree. It's actually the only Mango tree I've ever seen where the leaves actually looked significantly different or unique. I think most of his Mango trees are just from seeds he's randomly planted in the ground so it could be anything. It's probably at least 10 years old, but I've never seen fruit on it. I've asked him what variety it might be and he has the faintest idea.

Laying tile over existing tile in a very small entryway

I have a section at my rear entry which was designed to have four 16x16 slate tiles installed. During the remodel, I used a piece of commercial carpet in the space and found it to work better than the tiles. Problem with tiles is they just allow water and mud further into the house. Right now, I have a piece of low pile carpet with a leopard print cut exactly to fit. My local Restore gets lots of commercial carpet pieces and carpet tiles so for a couple dollars I can just change out the carpet when it gets too dirty or I want something different. Because the area is inset, I don't have to worry about the rug moving around or getting caught under the door which is s big plus for me.

have you thought about wallpaper with a not-so-busy pattern? hubby forbids wallpaper in my house so i would have to do a large canvas on the wall to the right as you enter the house. i did find this picture to give an idea. a new door will be a big improvement.

Thank you everyone! I’m not a big fan of wallpaper myself. So I’ll think a statement art piece or photo gallery will have to do
