Quick Question - When you're at a fabric store. . .
Comments (15)Well after posting this I felt stupid but I see I'm not the only one who ever got the look. I forgot to check this before I left and I ended up carrying the bolt. A young girl cut my fabric this time and seemed fine about it. There's usually a lot of people around and not enough workers. I find the bolts very awkward. Even worse if you have other stuff in your arms. It would make sense to ask them but I've found you seem to loose your spot if you wait around! I think they can definitely tell us non sewers apart. I bet I have a very bewildered look on my face as I wonder through the isles of fabrics, thread, and stuff I'm not sure what it is. . . A sign would be nice if they'd rather you not touch it. The time I got the look, I debated but I actually thought maybe they'd think I was lazy/helpless that I didn't bring it over! I found some nifty fabric on the sales pile that was $6... I was really hoping it was for the whole shabang but that was per yard. Which is still good. Point I'm trying to make is they at least have a sign there. I guess from here on out I'll track someone down and just flat out ask them which they'd prefer....See MoreStoring shoes near point of use...
Comments (7)lilydilly, I like the idea of the wheels on the basket. I was looking on-line this morning for storage for shoes and got the idea of a plastic bin on wheels. It wasn't as pretty as this one and was a whole lot more costly. I think I will try it without wheels and like you said I could add one of the flower pot bases with wheels if I feel I need it. I told myself I wasn't going to buy, just bring in...but this basket met me outside the store and it seemed just right, so I thought it would be silly not to buy it!...See MoreSo how do you store your fabric?
Comments (30)deco...I don't want to call grandma...I want to sew with her (or drink fluffy coffee as my grandma used to call it). Sue all that silk belongs in a crazy quilt missie...and have you ever made a quilt with a serger? SOOOO much easier, especially with silk. If you sew with silk at all woman you need to figure out the serger...can you say "no more fringed and frazzled edges?" Pecan...I didn't sew until ohhh five or so years ago when I made my DH (not DH then) a bunch of silk pillows for his couch (he couldn't find any that worked with it). I had a bunch of scraps and thought I'd "whip" out a crazy quilt for nothing...about a grand later...he had a beautiful quilt, and I was hooked. The great thing I now know is that I can buy silk on sale and save the scraps and make ooddles of quilts for so much less that that first quilt cost me! Those scraps of yours would be a gorgeous quilt I'd bet :oP When our house is all said and done I'm going to make a crazy quilt for our bed out of all the silks, satins and linen I'm using on drapes and for bedding. I will do that for every house we do as a memory of that home to take with us to the next. DS will have the nicest bed in the dorm room in college LOL...See MoreDoes anyone live near a Devine Paint store?
Comments (12)So...aside from the test paint pouches using *real* paint vs approximations, I love Devine for the low odor and the consistency. It's VERY thick, which means minimal dripping/splatter. I've used Behr, SW, the Kmart/Sears Martha Stewart line and there's no comparison for ME, which is why I'll pay more. Because while two coats deepens the color, I find one coat with touch-ups for patchy spots usually gives me results I like. So less paint used (aka less time spent) with less clean up. That said, the paints were developed for our rainy/grey PNW atmosphere (HEAVY cloud cover most of the time) and I've heard people say they're too "muddy." So it's not like it's a miracle paint, ha. Disclaimer: Colors appear differently on monitor; everyone's home takes color differently So many people love the Devine light neutrals, but I gravitate towards her medium/dark shades. Feather (sand) + Foam (deep aqua) Breeze Oak (looks soooo yellow tan on sample card!) Oak again (in dark hallway) + Spice Spice again in LR Teak (with flash to combat Winter lack of light) Horizon Here is a link that might be useful: Vix's House of Crayola Colors...See MoreRose Pekelnicky
