New House, New Roof, what’s next for curb appeal?
Comments (39)"It sounds kind of silly, but it looks like it belongs in front of a more contemporary house. It's too modern for my house! " I find this a very odd notion :-) There is nothing particularly contemporary in style about a Japanese maple. They have been planted in Japan for thousands of years. With the right complimentary plantings, there is a cultivar suitable for any style of architecture! I would opt for a JM over messy, deciduous ornamental grasses any day of the week!! Especially for an entry garden. "If weed killer was sprayed, you can’t plant anything or will have to replace dirt around each planting." Just an FYI but this is not at all true. Most herbicides/weed killers retain minimal viability in the soil - they have to interact with growing plant tissue/foliage to be effective - and you can generally replant the area within a couple of days. The product label will always provide this information....See MoreAny ideas on increasing the curb appeal of our pictured house?
Comments (6)Very cool house! Your view of course and location is worth the effort of painting. To enhance the architecture of the house, paint the house and trim the same color. I would suggest a fairly dark slate blue. Then the shape of the house would be unified and nestled into the landscape as it was originally designed to do. The contrast with your reddish roof would be nice. A nice extra large entrance "waterhog" mat at your front door in a dark blue to cover the concrete in front of the door would be useful. Your front door could go brick red, or navy blue. You could have one bench or chair to the right of your door. Keep your landscaping simple around the front door. Maybe a water feature or bird bath with day lilies around it or some other easy perennial. Line your walkway with low growing plants and keep them uniform. You could scatter some pots around the back with flowers of your choice....See MoreNeed help with ideas for painting/curb appeal ideas for our house
Comments (6)I love the current green, and the yellow front door! The uniformity of the green allows the garage car-doors and people-door to blend in. I'd remove the fence unless it is serving a purpose (which I don't see). For safety, ensure the visibility of your house numbers from the street. Is there anything you'd like to add out front, such as a sitting space, a cover or a bench near either door? (I don't see the need for anything, it's just what functionality you would like.) For landscaping suggestions, re-post your picture, include your planting zone, the direction your house faces (East?), and a nearby major city so that people can make practical recommendations, and hope that a professional gives you a pretty picture to go by :-) Nice house!...See MoreNJ Home - Curb Appeal Ideas
Comments (10)Lovely and traditional. I would re-think the paver path to the drive as it impedes somewhat your ability to put in a nice front garden. I think I'd be looking at classic NJ plantings - rhodies, azalea, hydrangea, maybe a row of boxwoods under the window and annuals in front of them. Maybe an ornamental tree on the front lawn, like dogwood or japanese maple. The good news....it's not that much to landscape and it will make all the difference in the world. I feel like this property also needs some roses somewhere. Maybe a brighter front door?...See MoreTanya
