I would buy that in a HEARTBEAT and THEN figure out where/how to use it. Gorgeous. And if the quality is as high as it appears...$1300 is not a bad price. Would I turn it into a media cabinet? Maybe. It's not that much more than some of the stuff sold made-a-purpose to be a media cabinet. I MIGHT want to do a little more research and be certain it isn't some well-known designer, though. (Just in case.) If it's "just" high quality...go for it! As to needing to be able to use one's remotes...there is some sort of wireless unit one can buy that solves THAT problem. Can't remember who mentioned it, but someone on this board has one. Google around and you'll find it.

Good morning Ash, Hope you're sitting down because this will be a long one to read, though it might save you a lot of expense and mistakes. Taking the first things first approach takes a little longer but in the end is SO much more satisfying when everything comes together like you hoped it would. When I work with someone I always give them a small kit of things to take with them wherever they go. The kit includes a an inch wide ring binder, a small pocket notebook and a small tape measure. I ask them to start looking for pictures of furniture, fabrics, textures in rugs and carpets and interior paint colors in magazines. Anything and everything goes into this notebook and that includes magazine pages, tear sheets and photos of things found in furniture stores or even friend's homes. Business cards of helpful salespeople, notes measurements of coffee tables in hotel lobbies and restaurants and armoires, curtain and drapery looks...all goes in the book. You're already on your way with this! I ask them to look in their closets and identify the colors and fabrics that they love best. At this point I ask that they circle and note on the pages what it is that appeals to them about the item(s) in the picture. If it's a piece of furniture, I ask them to check the source list in the back of the mag. so we can try to locate it and get the specs from the manufacturer. When it's texture I ask them to note that too and when it's color I again ask them to check the source section at the back of the mag. again to see if the color is noted and the paint mfr., but if not, to be sure to circle it for me so I can pull that range of colors from my paint fan decks. It really doesn't take very long for us to find which magazines reflect their personal taste and styles best and we quickly begin to see a common pattern of colors textures and styles evolve in the tear sheets they collect for me. Many are anxious at this point to rush out and fill a room with furniture when what usually works best is to slowly build the room piece by individual piece. If possible, we start with color and light because you can't have one without the other and they'll always be the most important elements in your space. They'll frame and define the room and if they aren't right, the room will be a disappointment no matter what you put in it. If possible, empty the room completely, stand in the middle of the empty space and identify how you really want to live in the space. Ideally the room will be primed white and ready for painting. EVERYBODY loves their room at this point because it feels open clean and clutter free. Remember that feeling as you begin to add things to the room because you want to maintain that feeling of clarity and volume. Will you relax in there, entertain, work or maybe need to do all three in the space. This will determine the kind of lighting that you'll be needing in the room and in all cases you'll want lighting at several levels. Look critically at your windows and make a mental note of the amount of natural light that the room gets throughout the day. Will you want to make the most of the light and view or need to filter the light and obscure that smokestack across the courtyard from your loft space? Lets say you love the view. When you begin to think about where and how you eventually want to arrange furniture, furniture you already have or things you'll want to purchase, you'll want to make the most or the least of these views in regard to furniture placement. You'd be surprised at how many people arrange their furniture with their backs to a wonderful view that only gets noticed as people walk past the window going in or out of the room! Most people also tend to put more far more furniture in a room than is really necessary and then are disappointed when the room begins to feel cramped. But back to the space itself. Think about your open walls and any artwork you'll be displaying. This is the time to install small spots to wash those walls with light to showcase your artwork or photography. It will visually enlarge the space too. Don't have artwork yet? Check out sites like ArtPosters.com and you'll be amazed at the beautiful prints and photography available at very affordable prices. Not just posters, thousands of things. You can also have family, friends photos enlarged and arranged in gallery framed groupings. Modern, sophisticated and changeable too. Great wooden gallery frames are available at Target for very little money for a lot of look. But again, back to the space...All overhead lighting should have dimmer controls. Home Depot or Lowe's can help you with this overhead lighting plan. Now consider the room's woodwork, wainscot if you have it,trim and ceiling height. Do you need more book storage, closed storage, a built in area for a small desk or bar? Tape the space needed for them out on the floor, and add this additional need for task lighting to the plan for the ceiling lighting to supplement your mid-level lamplight. If you have built in bookcases and feel the room seems overshadowed by them, consider adding lighting to the bookcases, adding glass shelves at the top under the interior spots for display, mirroring the interior backs or painting them out to match the trim and then painting the backs in a brighter/deeper color than the eventual wall color. Makes a dramatic difference. After you finish your lighting plan and installation, bring in a few lamps and spare tables and put them where you THINK you'll want lamps in the room. Turn ALL the lighting on and observe the overall effect. Now dim the overhead lighting and observe the room through the day with lights on, off, dimmed, in morning, afternoon and evening over a weekend. Does the lighting in the room feel welcoming? Are there any shadows and dark corners-note them in your notebook. Now is the time to put some paint on the walls. Return to the colors you circled and get a few sample pots. Lowe's will color match any paint samples of any mfr./brand you like and for 3 to 5 dollars will give you a tiny pot that will cover about 5 square feet. Ben. Moore has lots of little sample pots, but don't put more than three colors up for consideration at one time. My favorite trick is to tell clients to put these samples on a white foam core or mat board and put that board in the room because you won't be able to see the true colors painted over whatever background paint color you already have there unless it's white. Of course you can move that board from wall to wall,shaded, sunny etc. to see the color change slightly with each one. Now watch your colors throughout the day and in the different levels of light you've just added to the room before you make your final color choice(s). Prime, fill, sand,prime over the sanded areas again and paint THREE coats of your chosen color on the walls. Don't skimp with this because you'll get a much truer richer finish with three coats. If you're covering light trim with a light color, just two will do for crown and base moulding but you may want an extra coat on door trims where you'll be cleaning fingerprints and smudges from time to time. You know your vulnerable areas best. Now to rugs and furniture. All of this time that you,ve been working on the lighting and painting, manufacturers of carpeting and fabric manufacturers can be pulling and shipping samples to you based upon the circled items you liked best in your notebook. Stop at a carpet/rug dealer or even a Home Depot EXPO and ask to have samples sent directly to you. You can take area rugs home on approval from almost any store. Seeing the carpet samples or rugs in your painted open space will make your final choice much easier. Bring in a sofa, chair, table things you know you want to incorporate into your final room and see them all in the space together and remember to view them in all the varying lighting possibilities. From here it gets more exciting because you can then return to your notebook and confirm that you're on track as you begin to look for individual furniture pieces. (My job while the painting and lighting is in progress) The words to remember are always try before you buy whenever possible. Bring home a coffee table and see how it works with what you already have. Bring home two. End tables are furniture not twins and they don't have to match. Neither do nightstands for that matter. Your concern is having them look related and complimentary. It takes some time for most people to do and usually involves a happy accident of walking into a store or a flea market and finding "the perfect piece" Take your time and enjoy the process. Encourage yourself to think outside of the box and consider things like whether a console table with a lamp(s) behind the sofa might work better than end tables? Morris' quote was about editing our belongings and the need to confine the things we live with to the truly beautiful and functional things we love. So many of us live with things that we think are are too good to give away,had some sentimental value to a relative, were great buys but not what we really wanted, and we carry them with us from place to place as they clutter our lives. Take the time to find what you love and what really works for you. Your taste will change and that's absolutely ok. This isn't the last furniture you'll buy in your life. Don't waste money on compromises that don't really work for you because you want a finished look fast. You're only inviting frustration into your life because when you finally do find the right thing you'll feel bad that you've already invested in something that you had to talk yourself into. At the same time, if a row of Billy bookcases from IKEA is exactly what you need for a wall of books in your room then by all means go get them! They're terrific! The one true thing that everyone will agree upon is that nobody ever regrets buying something of quality. Save for it, buy it and enjoy it for years to come and when your tastes change,let it go and keep the memories of how much you loved walking past it and knowing you'd bought exactly what you wanted. Then go out and find something new, or old and antique to love. This is what I tell my clients, and I like my clients to be VERY happy clients.

I will definitely do as you suggest to contact galleries and auction houses to see if they are interested in the objects. Now I am in the documentation/research phase. Oliviag, very correct your remarks. This is what I think as well. There is something Grecian/Neoclassical but the angels and gold colors make it more baroque/rococo. The Hollywood regency term is also very interesting. I will look on that. Bisque term is also something new to me. Thanks! Also thank you for the condolences. Much appreciated. Indeed she had a great influence to my life, her, as well as all the products that I used to observe when I was little and everything looked so huge, so strange in the dim, warm light she used to have at home. A kind of goldish warm feeling. I have very mixed feelings letting everything go but objects need to serve the right place in the right moment. And these objects did that very well. Life moves on. With a part of the money, I plan to buy a nice mechanical (60s like) watch to remember her. A kind of transformation.
