Please advise re: Paint choice for exterior trim in Texas
Comments (0)Our house is 7 years old and has its original SW Duration Exterior Paint on the trim. Most of the house is stone, except there is wood trim in Belvedere Tan, Navajo White, and one small wing in cedar shingle painted Dark Birch (I'm fairly sure--it is a driftwood color), all SW colors. We are having the trim painted again. It is all in good condition except for a small area of Belvedere Tan on the front of a south-facing balcony. Our paint contractor usually uses Duration, but will use whatever brand and paint we wish. So, here is my question: Should I specify SW Duration Exterior again, or should I switch to FPE? I am sure he will not remove every piece of wood and prime on 6 sides, which I think is the only way to meet FPE's guaranty requirements. I do not want to change any of the colors because they work so well with the stone. Thanks for your thoughts! Oh, and we are roughly equidistant from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, so whatever paints are available among the three are fair game. The big consideration is durability in the Texas sun and variable weather. Comments (5)The brick is interesting and varied. The red roof is the problem since so much of it shows. The previous owners did a nice job of trimming the window with a dark red paint, and the siding color is actually nice. If you're going to replace the roof, change your paint out then. A warm darker brown roof would look great, then you could paint the house sage with the dark red trim. Visual tricks you can do now: --Paint the garage the same color as you have now. That way the brick and siding won't stand out so much. --Put two dark red Adirondack chairs on the porch and paint your front door and storm to match. --Go to a gardening center to have them design a deep, curvy bed for the front on the house with some deep red perennials (or a small red Japanese maple) and other perennials shrubs. It'll change the whole look of the house....See MorePlease advise, 1936 exterior
Comments (5)I think you have a lovely home. I also think the shutters look cheap. Take them off and don’t replace. The color of the shutters isn’t bad as it blends with the brick and the roof, so you could use that color for the trim. Or even a deeper shade of that color. The railings could be upgraded to another style, but have you checked local code to see if you could go without railings? Personally, I’d want railings of some sort. There are some cool looking ones made of aluminum and wood on Pinterest Another upgrade would be to top the concrete with facing bricks or stone....See MorePlease advise exterior color.
Comments (25)I like this SW Gauntlet Gray and Antique White. Just my own personal views, but I don’t think red, black, and bright white are the best combo. They’re all stark together, disjointed, don’t flow well. https://www.elegantpainting.com/gray-colors-that-go-with-red-brick/ https://www.elegantpainting.com/gauntlet-gray-sw7019/...See MoreMargaret Mountcastle
