Induction Slide In Range Recommendations, please!
Comments (16)Thanks for the input! This website is so helpful, and I really appreciate the time everyone spent responding. JWVideo--I have read dozens of your posts and really respect and appreciate your knowledge of appliances. Thanks for your input. Flummoxed? Bewildered? Confused? Yup, I definitely am! Honestly I'm overwhelmed by the entire process of renovating. Neither my husband nor I have any skills in this area, and we are finding the hundreds of "small" decisions we must make are suffocating at times. We know it will be worth it in the end, and some days are better than others! This week has been hard. No, I did not know that Lowe's would price match AJ Madison. That's awesome. Thanks! I have had a gas range for 10 years and love it. HOWEVER, our new house does not have natural gas on the property and getting it there is about $2,000. Since we don't need it for anything else, that lead me to consider induction. I have seen the demonstration, viewed it at a friend's house, and spent hours reading the pros & cons. I'm actually really excited about it and think it will be great. Not to mention our summers here are ferocious and I would love to put less heat into the kitchen. I just wish there were more options to choose from! laat2--I think you hit the nail on the head. I didn't fully realize the "niche" idea until you said it, so thanks. That was helpful. fauguy--Thanks for that information. Unfortunately, I need this range by July for our new (old) home we are renovating. Co-Co--Thanks for the link. I have read your thread, and the slow pre-heat time on the oven is one of the reasons I was looking for another option. I use the oven frequently, and love that my currently one is hot in just a couple of minutes. I guess I was really hoping for a new option that I hadn't discovered on my own! Comments (12)I guess because a) I want to keep the kitchen slick and simple - I do not use an oven at all and I do not want it there just to clutter up things and it not being used. I;ll probably stay here for another decade and even if I don't, dont really care about resale value of the property over a small thing like this b) I was planning to just cover up the whole bottom with a simple panel which hopefully wouldn't cost too much c) I don't wanna spend out of money pocket for a slide-in induction oven/range if I don;t use it. I just want the cooktop....See MoreProblem with installing PHS920SFSS GE Slide-in induction range
Comments (11)To wrap things up, I thought to mention that we went with a custom solution with Microtrim. Excellent customer service, and so far we're happy with the solution. They essentially made us a U-shaped piece that rests on the countertop. The vent cover then rests on top of it. I've uploaded some photos to the folder linked in my original post above if you'd like to have a look, i.e., http://tinyurl.com/GE-slide-in-gap A couple notes. 1. To make this work, you have to remove the vent cover- the silver piece that's causing the problem by being designed too short. It's attached by 2 screws. The screws go through two tabs on the vent cover. In order for this to work, the vent cover needs to be able to move up a bit with respect to the back of the stove where it's attached by the screws. This way, the vent cover rests on top of the trim piece that Microtrim made for us. And this is how you get a neater look. 2. In order to do that, you have to use tin snips or some such to cut a slot out of the screw holes in each tab. I haven't done this, but plan to use fender washers (washers that are thick- that is, they might be 1" diameter, but the hole in the center might be 1/8". Think of a metal disk with a hole in the middle.) It's tricky, and this hasn't been on the top of our to do list. Right now, it looks good, but it's not completely secured. The front edge of the vent cover hooks under the rear edge of the cooktop. 3. Be careful: the vent cover is pretty sharp, and can scratch the fine finish of the trim piece. Remember, it's resting right on top of it. Hope that helps! PS: big, big, big caveat: moving the vent cover like I did may void your range's warranty; and there may be some non-insignificant change to the risk your stove poses to your home, so do all this at your own risk! :-)...See MoreKitchenaid slide-in induction range scorched the wall
Comments (32)We just completed reno in our kitchen and installed a slide in kitchen aid range. The first use of the oven mirrors the comments above. The key is there is only one vent for release of smoke and heat and it is the second open slot on the left of the unit. In our case the heat release exposed our quartzite backsplash to extreme heat and yellow stained it. I had our stone man come back he elaborated that the vent and maximizing the heat vented to one slot is not ideal. I now put a trivet at an angle between the stove and the wall to deflect the heat and coupled with the installed vent seems to deflect but ideally is not a long term solution. My thoughts are that the design of the venting slots on the stove are not correct and need modification....See MoreToronto Veterinarian
