I picked up a huge block of it at Costco the other day. Anticipating my bread machine at the end of the month.

I can't ever seem to figure out where it is in Costco...although I've only been there once since the shutdown started. Glad to know it's coming back other places, too.

It was in the baking isle at ours. Near the flour. I wasn't planning on getting it but when I saw it, I thought I might as well get it.

I am kicking myself now. On one of my trips to the grocery store about a month or two ago I saw in place of regular yeast a jar of brewers yeast. Couple of days ago I saw a method of making ginger beer using it.

I got a 2 pound package from Costco via Instacart for $5.50 last week. I think it was Red Star. I doubt we've used 2 pounds of yeast in the last 40+ years- probably not even 1 pound- but it's a nominal cost. It does seem to be coming back into availability because I'd forgotten I'd also put it down for my grocery store order for the next day and we got two 3-packet bundles. Plenty of yeast now.

Wow - 2 pounds is more than I could use in a few years, I think! My sister bought 2# from a local bakery where she lives, back in April or May, and I have no idea how she'll ever use it up, since she rarely bakes bread. Hopefully she shared it.

I was able to order packets of both active and fast rise yeast from Aldi here, no prob. I bake 1 loaf of bread once a week - just made one today, as a matter of fact 🙂

Now if only I could find organic whole wheat flour around here...

Yeast lasts a LONG time in the freezer, if you have more than you need. I put it in a sealed mason jar.
