Thermidor gas or dual fuel range vs Wolf gas range
Comments (3)When I started my research for my kitchen remodel (about three months ago), my initial thoughts were strongly towards Thermador (for the range and refrigerator), and Wolf (I eliminated Viking due to quality concerns, and I hadn't yet heard of many others like BS, American, DCS, Aga, etc.). Then, I noted that Thermador doesn't offer all gas or open burners, and I better understood that my use of the oven didn't require the electronic functions (nor did I want the risk of having them burn out), and I thus eliminated Thermador even though I love the look (but function is much more important to me than style and looks) and it's star-burner shape does make it probably the best of the sealed burner options (ignoring output) IMO. If one wants to be a better cook, and understand the need of function over looks, then I can't see how one can pick Thermador, given the choice. I would pick BS or Wolf all gas instead. I think you might benefit from watching some of the Bluestar cooking videos Trevor has made (http://www.bluestar-ranges.com/Home_Page.html) - even though they mostly compare BS and Wolf, they serve as a nice educational source for learning more about what to look for in a range....See Moreadvice on 30" gas cooktop - bosch or wolf?
Comments (4)You might consider the USA made Dacor cooktops which also offers an integrated "downdraft" venting system. I have installed the 30" gas cooktop and electric oven (as single dual-fuel unit - see DR30DI) together with the 15" downdraft vent, and I'm really pleased with it. You can view the models at http://www.dacor.com/Our-Products/Cooktops/Distinctive-Gas-Cooktops.aspx DCT305 (54,000 Total BTUs) 1 SimmerSearTM Burner with Melting Feature (18,000 BTU) 1 Sealed Gas Burners (11,000 BTU) 2 Sealed Gas Burners (9,000 BTU) 1 Sealed Gas Burner (7,000 BTU) (The above 5 burner configuration applies to the 36" model, whereas the 30" models has just 4 burners; i.e. The 11,000 BTU burner is omitted.)...See MorePlease share experience with Wolf, Thermador, Bosch, Miele gas cooktop
Comments (9)I'll share my experience with a 800 series Bosch 5 burner cooktop. Although mine is a 30 inch but, hopefully some info will help. My salesman told me that Thermador was the same as Bosch in the engineering (same company) except of course those star shaped hobs. I have two 5500 BTU burners (simmer) and that is what they are mostly good for or reheating something in a small pot. Two 10000 BTU which are fine for most everything and one 16000 biggie centered in the middle that requires a large pan even on low or the flames are licking up the side. But it is wonderful for bringing large pots to a boil or anything else you might wish to do in a large pan or pot. Being that mine is on a 30 inch platform the control knobs are kind of close to the two front burners. Perhaps that won't be an issue with the 36". I find that the stainless finish cleans up best with those clorox (or store brand) kitchen wipes, great for baked on mess and grease. The grates are continuous and wash up in the dishwasher wonderfully. I didn't go with a super huge exhaust like some will recommend over in appliances. My three speed Zephyr 290 CFM is more than I need even for frying probably because it is vented to the outside (only way to go). I rarely use the highest speed. One thing I do regret is not making the capture space (distance between cabinets flanking cooktop) wider, but didn't find the info until it was too late). There was a pro on these boards (wish I could remember who to give credit where it is do) that said a 30' cooktop requires minimum 36" space and a 36" would require 42" and so on. Hope I got that correct. That is not a direct quote, but you could probably search these boards and find it. I realized how much nicer that hearth area would be AFTER my install. So back to the Bosch. I've had it for going on two years now and love it. I use it everyday for meals and lots in the summers for blanching veggies to be frozen. I've used it a few times for large gatherings and the burners can get a little crowded but handle placement is key. The price difference was the clincher for me as the Thermador was way more money. The only thing I don't have are those fancy star shaped hobs....See MoreWolf Induction Cooktop vs. Wolf Gas Cooktop??
Comments (26)I saw the newest Wolf induction cooktop and I was impressed with its versatility. Specifically, I am speaking of model CI365T/S. I really like the burner layout with the four burners that can be bridged on one side and a larger oval burner on the other side. It offers what seems to be the most flexible layout. There are other induction cooktops with "flexible" zones but they are in a layout that is less versatile, most commonly with a large round hob in the center and the flexible zones on either side. My building does not have gas so when I upgrade, I will be looking at induction. As of now, I think the Wolf is my favorite but I am a year or two out and something new may change my thinking....See Morewingskings
