I've ordered most furniture.
Still waiting to arrive: dining room table, console for tv and 2 chairs in Living room
Here's where I've gotten....
on the big wall behind the couch I plan to hang 3 old barn windows.
let me look for a picture [they are in current home].
I'm thinking of painting them and leaving them empty. The wall they are on is SW Accessible Beige fyi.
Struggling with:
1) Rug
the inspiration is a marled braided wool rug but it's $4k.
Hoping to be under $1k, prefer under $500. 10x14.
And with the couches more blueish/gray than cream not sure what would work? Ideas?
2 elderly dogs also so keep in mind...
ideas:
this one seems nice. only $255
only 9x12 wool rug $900
pricy but pretty oatmeal wool
or grey 10x14 braided wool $550
or ??
2) Pillows for Couch and Chairs
original thought was grainsack with black stripes [3] and 2 knitted cream pillows...wondering if I should do more greys/blacks?
[the chairs I ordered are grey velvet with wood back, very similar to inspiration]
pillows I was planning to get:
could do black with white stripes
solid gray etc...
3) Island Stools
thinking i want them to be comfortable so can be 'extra seating' for dinner parties [kids]...
ideas
i'm doing a more muted color scheme...kind of picking from the fireplace stone and beams..
will do spots of color with accessories.
Thanks for help. I'm burnt out.

Comments (19)There were actually several things that we wound up doing before our full remodel...and I'm so glad we did. We moved into a house that had a 1970's kitchen (complete with an avocado stove and non-vented hood). We planned on a kitchen remodel within 2 years of getting into the house. It wound up that it's been a little over 3. We picked up a Craigslist range and got rid of the old one. I don't love the Craigslist range, but it was light-years better than the original. This range is now in our basement hooked up to help us get through our remodel. And it will remain afterward for when I can since I'm getting an induction cooktop for upstairs. We put in a dishwasher. This single thing was the most important thing that we could have done to make the house livable through a terrible kitchen. We are reusing the DW in the new kitchen. We did a bit of rewiring which was completely necessary - so of this will be able to be reused in the new kitchen. Some of it won't. But, the fact that we weren't blowing a circuit every time we used the fridge and the microwave means that it was worth it! I had a rolling cart from our previous house and that was a lifesaver in the current kitchen...the rolling cart is now in our living room serving as a place for the microwave, a few dishes and utensils, and so on to live as a "temporary kitchenette" while our remodel goes on. The cart will go away after we are finished with our renovation...it's a little bittersweet to see it go - it's been such a help through a terrible rental kitchen and another terrible kitchen in the house we bought. Comments (33)Love this room. I would consider painting the room a lighter version of any color in the brick because that is your focal point! The layout looks good too as you can see the tv and the fireplace while seated on the sofa. I think you should decide on the paint that will coordinate with the brick. Then choose a light large rug, maybe broadloom in a light tweed rug to banish the dark flooring and create contrast with your sofa. I would also put the cool guitars on either side of the TV in a long horizontal line to fill the wall. Try the copper piece between the two doors. Put a large rectangular mirror on the brick fireplace Find large art work for the far wall where the guitars are now...maybe a triptych to fill the area; Matching lingerie type tall chest on either side of the fireplace with colorful lamps on them. A console table behind the sofa facing the fireplace with a pair of low fat lamps, possibly brass or silver or zinc. A pair of lamps on the new art wall where the guitars are hanging now. Something that will look good with the art work; clear glass with colored lampshades? A large lounge chair between the TV console and the fireplace, basically where the ottoman is now with a side table and a lamp for reading. This will give you six pair of lamps for lighting and one floor lamp for lighting plus storage. They should be large and fat to fill the room. and light colored will give you contrast....Have light, white cream natural fabric, fur throw pillows on the sofa to lighten it up too. Comments (29)This refers to Bedroom #2 which you indicated may be for an elderly relative. Your doorway into this bathroom is only 24” which will make it impossible for a wheelchair and difficult for a walker. I encourage you to remove or make more shallow the linen closet so you can enlarge the bathroom access door. Then make the Tub shower combo a Shower with low or no curb and a handheld wand. You never know when you will need this for an elderly relative or an immediate family member who has had surgery/broken leg. Make sure there is enough clearance on the sides of the toilet for grab bars and/or to assist in lifting. It would be simpler for this person to access the bathroom through one door instead of two, especially at night. You could remove the anteroom and make this a simple large bathroom with access door to hall and another access door to bedroom. Comments (7)get a standing TP holder. why are you keeping dark vanity? can you paint it? what about the countertop? what's the new one look like? what kind of floor? black faucets are fine, but they have to work w/the overall look. this is a powder room. you can go bold in here. otherwise, changing out a toilet and mirror isn't going to do a whole lot It sounds as if you're updating, but keeping the same overall theme and look. why? If you want to update, then update it! change it. it's rather dull and very basic. black mirror, black tap, not going to change that. If you're spending the money to redo something, then redo it. There are so many great ideas you could do to make that room really pop. this picture is cool. why don't you do this? the color blends with the color of the cane on the kitchen chairs and also beams....
and I'll add a throw that was mentioned a while back with the leather in it...
and all 3 are <$300. Woo hoo....

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI like your windows and I think with some modifications to how they were used they could work good in your new room. If you placed them closer together so they seem more like they belong together and then for each window pane make that a frame with a larger photo placed inside it could work well. Some options shown below.
I know most of them show people in the pictures, but you could do landscape scenes or pictures of objects too. Whatever you feel would work best.
Edit to add that I think since yours are only divided into 4 that they would look better than any of the above since the pictures would be larger and more visible.
