All my Texas Rangers (Leucophyllium frutescans) are blooming. It might be that the big change in heat -- from 108 down to 80 overnight -- caused these plants to bloom out-of-season.

All your flowers are just stunning! I don't have that hue of pink-in-pink Phlox but I have several others. That is a very pretty pink phlox. I think I will try to grow Bells of Ireland next year. Such a curiously pretty plant. But I Love, Love, Love that Chrysanthemum! ~Annie

Hey there, Don, you are doing a fantastic job with every one of your hosta....fragrant and otherwise. Somewhere you asked me what was blooming.....How about what is setting SEEDPODS? I found ONE seed pod on Adorable, one (so far and its a big un) on Avocado, several on Fragrant King (and they are huge and FAT), Fragrant Blue has a bunch of good sized ones too. I also noticed that my Lederhosen (a fragrant by Benedict) has the assassin bug nymphs crawling all over it too, just like they were on Moonlight Sonata. I do not know what attracts them, but there they are. Their signature color of black and orange might make them immune to the wild birds eating them, because those two colors signify either poison or bad taste. Birds can taste, they don't have much sense of smell. And of course, their eyes have one more color cone than humans have, so color is very important to birds. I have some of my hosta that are getting brown leaves. The only one which ALMOST went heat dormant was Living Waters, a fragrant I got in June I think. Beautiful coloring like Mardi Gras, they look great near one another. However, I sat Living Waters in too much hot afternoon sun, and it decided it was nap time. Now I notice it is growing some new leaves, since I moved it into only morning sun. Aphrodite, of which I have 3 or 4, has some big buds but no blooms open YET. I'll keep you informed on it, because where I have them they get a bit of morning sun, and the long rays of the late afternoon as well. My new little Venus is doing fine too. It really looks sort of like a descendent of Invincible with those shiny smooth delicate leaves. Jade Stone? I absolutely love that hosta! It is a vigorous and quite masculine looking hosta. Ming Treasure which is a sport of Mama, it is not a big hosta, but it is really healthy looking. No bloom so far. One of my 8 plantagineas is in bloom, but it was one of two that received the bleach treatment for nematodes last year, and it is not a regular sized bloom. Mama herself is looking healthy. All of my Royal Standards are blooming with multiple scapes, and I'm happy with the number of seed pods coming on them. Not a FULL set of pods, but hey, I don't have room for tons of them, you know. My lonesome Guacamole is blooming. I just got it as a replacement in June, and it is taking to the climate fine. As the summer goes by, I'm seeing that hosta have places in my garden where I can put them in the ground. The ones I KNOW have no HVX, those are the ones I can trust to plant. So my new driveway bed is ready for planting. All I have to do is decide which ones to unpot. I bought Empress Wu specifically for this bed. She and S&S were the first two on the flower bed list. Then Blue Angel and Winter Snow, two which are currently in the ground and doing okay, but......I think they will prosper much better in a better location....before they get too humongous to move. And where they are now, will be my spot for rain barrels. One of these days, there will be drought again. Well, I have plants to take to a friend, already in the car, dug up from the driveway bed to make room for my hosta. I cannot wait to bring views of lovely hosta to my neighborhood.....the first ones for public viewing. I'm even putting Patriot out there, and U. albomarginata from my DH's house, since it needs the ground to get its white back.

Thanks hoovb zone 9 sunset 23 for the ID. :-) Earlier this month, I went to the forest for a walk, and this little beauty followed me home. :-o Note: I don't have an ID, but I think she might belong to the "ice plants" family (Aizoaceae or Ficoidacea) or I might be totally wrong :p As the month comes to an end, the little fellow is showing her true beautiful colours.
