Trump warns mail in voting would cause the ‘most rigged election in history’

How much more can America take -- how far away is the date of disintegration?

Instead of ensuring a fair election Trump dismisses the institution. Anybody who can accept these words from the one who took an Oath to uphold the Constitution is enabling a Criminal.

His followers will not see it. Seemingly they want an unfair election for some reason of their own. Applauding the various methods that have been used this year to reduce the number of polling places. Encouraging intimidation of voters to prevent or make them think that it is unwise for them to vote.

I was listening to some of this today and while he does have trouble saying words off a teleprompter I was surprised, although shouldn't have been, how easily the 4 syllable word "litigation" just rolled off his tongue and out of his prissy little mouth.

It's blatantly obvious that he expects to lose, and of course he cannot take responsibility for that himself. He's just upset that he can't rig the election the way he wants to. But maybe he will find a way to do that👿

most rigged election in history

I'm positive that Team Trump has been working overtime to make 2020 the most rigged election in history.

Yeah...he said the same thing in 2016. It’s projection again—-blame Dems for what you know you’re guilty of. The only rigging will be from trump and his corrupt party.

It would not surprise me if the least if he blames the Covid disaster on Pence, fires him for mishandling it and replaces him with a person he thinks can help him better in November. Can't imagine a sane person taking the offer but the smell of money and power is powerful.

I was listening to the radio this morning. The topic was the Polio epidemic of the 50s and the write talked about FDR. Though an aristocrat he experienced the impartiality of the Polio virus. When he had to close the banks his message was on a radio broadcast. He explained why the banks would be closed for several days, that their money would be safe and "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He gave the message that Americans were all in this together and they would get through it.

What a contrast. the meme above says "Squashing bugs like a boss." Great leader. Great message.

Someone on tv mentioned it and I see that's what our town is doing..."mail-in" ballots need not go in the mail but in ballot drop boxes which are placed by the town hall/police station so you can securely drop our ballot off before election day. Might be a worthwhile option for people to check into in their area. If Secy's of State really want to help ensure free and fair elections, they might look into this option rather than rely on the mail service.

Remember those internationally supervised elections in foreign countries? The big stable countries were called in to make sure there was no vote rigging or voter intimidation. America was the one of those superior Democracies and could be trusted to ensure fair elections in those troubled countries, some of them poor, third world places.

Remember when the United States confronted its own authorities and citizens who were denying others their right to vote?

If the US election process is compromised what's next? The President should stop his whining and lying and do his job. Or maybe he'd like to call in a foreign country to "supervise"

Nana -- I'm sure we aren't the only ones to think of that. What ELSE can we think of when the President is tearing down the institutions, trying to diminish the Postal Service before mail in votes are needed-- and he's enabled by his cult and political pals.

A friend of mine speaks with European clients daily, and their overwhelming opinion is that they will be flabbergasted, if somehow Donald Trump's actions as President, have not convinced enough Republicans that it would be insane to re-elect him. One sent my friend this article from a U.S. source, and said it states exactly how non Americans view Trump...that he is turning America into the 'shithole country' that he fears. There have certainly been some past Presidents that turned out to have done immoral, illegal and irresponsible things. But never has an American President worked so hard to gain disrespect, on such an international scale.

I have family in the U.S. and can honestly say I have never heard them complain about living in America before, until this President. The ability to wheel and deal in real estate/casino/golf course/T.V. ventures, might make one wealthy, but clearly does not qualify them to lead a nation, especially one as large and complex as America. Knowledge of world history, politics, diplomacy and how governmental sectors work, would have been more valuable, for any presidential candidate. Intelligence, integrity, empathy, open mindedness, tact, and humility would have been personal assets, to anyone hoping to gain the admiration and respect of their country's citizens and those of other countries as well.

Donald Trump pompously assumed he needed to 'make America great again.' Well, thanks to him, maybe your Democrats need to wear blue MAPA campaign hats...'Make America Proud Again.' I'd bet that none of us from other countries have leaders who haven't made grandiose miscalculations, detrimental decisions, or foolish assumptions. But none of our countries were the world's most powerful nation, so perhaps their errors weren't as disastrous. We can't control America's fate, but if you are as disheartened with your President, as most of us from other countries are, just make sure you don't allow a single person to make you think your vote won't be necessary. That he fooled your country once, shame on him, but if he fools you twice...

"ABSENTEE VOTING and MAIL-IN VOTING ARE THE SAME THING! The tweeter is confused or he is lying ... pick one!"

Not so.

Absentee voters request ballots.

In mail- in voting, ballots are sent to addresses where qualified voters are "thought" to reside.

I have already mailed in my card, and will track it to see how long it takes for them to register the votes. I am, adopted, not absentee, but at home, and had to request the ballot. Absentee and mail in are the same thing here. What state is it that is just sending blank ballots willy nilly?

Professor Timothy Snyder called that sentence one of the 8 parts of a dictator's commentary on elections:

A fascist guide to commentary on elections would have eight parts: contradict yourself to test the faith of your followers; tell a big lie to draw attention from basic realities; manufacture a crisis; designate enemies; make an appeal to pride and humiliation; express hostility to voting; cast doubt on democratic procedures; and aim for personal power.

Trump achieves all eight with admirable concision in this one tweet. He decries voting by mail, but praises absentee ballots, which are nothing else but voting by mail. The blatant contradiction, the test of faith for the true believer, is there right at the beginning, a gatekeeper for the rest of the tweet.

The column is worth a read:

Trump’s ‘Delay the Election’ tweet checks all 8 rules for fascist propaganda

I plan to drop my ballot into a designated ballot box, since Trump plans to make mail delivery during the election period as chaotic as possible. That's all he has at the moment, but that could change.

If there are major disruptions to the election, there could be large scale riots, as in other countries in which the democratic process of voting is disrespected.

If Trump wants to avoid this (and gain the confidence of the American voters), then he needs to enact measures to make sure that the Post Office will be able to handle mail-in votes efficiently.

Otherwise, we will be spiraling down into a third-world country status.

We have been spiraling down into third-world country status since the day this wannabe dictator took office. Thanks to his “leadership” we’re almost there.

I’ll be taking my ballot in person to the BOE or drop boxes if they have them here. I do not trust voting machines anymore.

We can vote only by mail (or drop box) in WA; it's been that way for several years. Every registered voter receives a ballot. If someone other than the intended recipient should receive it, they'd have to do a credible forging of the signature on the voter's registration card in order for it to be counted. If it doesn't match, it gets tossed or more thoroughly checked.

No, ballots are sent to the addresses of registered voters. They are secure because each individual ballot has a unique bar code, making it impossible to copy the ballot and vote twice. The outer security envelope must be signed, and the signatures are matched against the voter registration card on file.

If the signatures don't seem to match the voter is contacted to provide proof of identity.

If Trump refuses to leave the White House after he loses, hundreds of thousands will march on Washington and Trump will have to escape off the roof in a helicopter.

The American people are not going to tolerate any shenanigans from a sore loser.

Well, at least he is giving us a warning on what he plans to have happen. And,

if he does lose in November and won't leave...treat him just like we would any

trespasser to the White House that refuses to leave....arrest him, put him

in handcuffs and lead him to jail. That's "our House" and we need to enforce

the laws that keeps it safe.

Agreed. Good thing President Trump is leaving federal agents in the Portland area for now. Lots of buildings there, and every one of them has an owner or owners. Looking forward to Oregon and Gov. Brown demonstrating they can and will protect the Court House from arsonists.

"Trump is hoping for SCOTUS as a decider if he doesn’t win outright."

Nonsense. President Trump did not ask Democrats or the IC to cook up the Russia hoax.

Neither Donald Trump nor his supporters asked the FBI to run to the FISA Court with the sick imaginings of the DNC/Clinton/Steele "dossier" for permission to spy on Carter Page (and therefore the Trump campaign).

President Trump has not spent the past four years obstructing the peaceful transfer of power he and all Americans are entitled to.

President Trump didn't arrange for the FBI's unauthorized "visit" to General Flynn, which was not approved by White House attorneys, and which Comey later bragged about. Trump didn't tell the FBI to coordinate leaks and false narratives with the MSM to do maximum damage to General Flynn. Trump didn't tell the FBI to sit around discuss whether they should get General Flynn to lie, or get him fired.
