Thinking outside the box kitchen
Comments (2)Too dark for me as well. I feel I'd need to mope around in there wearing a Morticia Addams dress, trying not to trail the sleeves in soapy dish water. I also think the lighting cast by the overhead fixture would be depressing; this kitchen has "takeout" written all over it....See MoreDo you think this inspiration pic is dated? Kitchen refresh idea
Comments (16)Really like shirlpp's link to laminate -- some very realistic white marbles, etc. If you add a white tile backsplash and white laminate countertop, you'll have a much, much nicer kitchen. I'd also look for a stainless-look dishwasher panel cover so that appliances (other than refrigerator) are consistent. I'd also look for a stainless, covered garbage can, if it needs to be visible. There's a lot of appliances on the counters -- depending on use and preference, you might want to store them behind doors. I really like the kitchen and dining floors -- are they terra cotta tile? It's hard to see the tall cabinet next to the laundry, but I think I would replace it with a nice furniture style armoire or tall cabinet as a large, decorative but functional accent piece. And as someone who LOVES light fixtures, I'd change the boob lights. All in all, I think your kitchen will look great, and I hope you post the 'after' photos to prove it....See Morekitchen refresh - would love ideas
Comments (10)I really like your kitchen! a smaller kitchen is sometimes more efficient than a larger one. I agree with Patricia that drawers are the way to go. it’s amazing how much more functional a kitchen becomes once drawers take the place of lower cabs. A counter depth fridge would also be a perfect look but make sure you have enough room for everything you normally stow in your fridge. if you think you won’t have enough space use your current fridge in a garage or basement for overflow. i actually found that the counterdepth was perfect because items don’t get pushed to the back and forgotten about....See MoreKitchen Refresh Help Needed - Existing Creamy Woodwork is Bossy
Comments (16)@svanflicka, I would definitely check around for other quotes. When my ex-husband and I built our new home, we had the enitire house painted for about that much and it was almost 3000 sq ft. I am sure we got a bargain as we found them through a friend. There are painters out there that are not with huge companies with overhead etc. I would really dig deep into finding someone from word of mouth or just investing on your own. Then meet with anyone you find an check references. I promise you that you can find someone to do the work for far less. I feel you will not be as happy as your working around something and giving into things (colors, counterops etc) that you do not love just bc of your trim etc. I would really take your time and think through it all. Spending all of that money and time, I would want you to be overjoyed with making the choices you want and not being made to just settle due to keeping and try to work with the trim color you have. I am not sure where you are in the process, but I would take a breather and really think this all out. In the long run it will worth it. Editting to add, you can always just slowly start with the trim in certain areas (like the kitchen) and take your time in painting it all. I know you will be happier. I have been in a similiar situation before and after all was said and done, I wanted to kick myself for not taking more time. Your spaces are going to be gorgeous! It sounds like we both have a very similar taste in design. Amy...See Moreictrealestatechick
