which type of neighborhood would you choose/what DID you choose?
Comments (16)Either B or C...we're not the cheapest house in the neighborhood but there are some that are significantly larger/more extravagant/ pricier than ours. The neighborhood began development about 20 years ago. The original builder is completing the development. We actually chose the neighborhood before we decided to build. We chose it for the school system (best in the city), location (very close commute to work, shopping, highway, etc), and the overall feel. When we walked around while shopping for houses, other people stopped us to introduce themselves and tell us how much they liked their house, neighborhood, and the builder. We also ran into about 7 different acquaintances that all lived there! We looked at another development that is newer but the houses all backed up to each other so the backyards were not private. That was a deal breaker for us. We couldn't find a house in our price range to buy in our chosen neighborhood, so we bought the last lot and are currently builder. So far, relatively smooth sailing....See MoreHelp! which of these 3 CL options would you choose?
Comments (34)anele, i haven't got the buffet yet, but it'll be difficult to convince me not to use that buffet as inspiration because i'm in love and love isn't always rational. :) what did you have in mind? also, to paint a bigger picture, this dining room is open to the kitchen and family room, and the family room will have a large fireplace covered floor to ceiling in an old european style dressed fieldstone, large casual comfy sofas... the kitchen will be what i'm dubbing "farm glam" - white shaker style cabinets, black chunky hardware/pulls, large white cast iron sink, chrome finish on farm-style plumbing and light fixtures, shiny aqua backsplash from ann sacks, curvy stainless vent hood with chrome accents. as you can tell, i'm really comfortable with all my individual items not being the obvious choice or matchy matchy. :) i'm sure it's a peeve of plenty of folks on this board to not keep within a period or genre or architectural integrity, but it makes me happy. (i'd post pics, but we just broke ground, so all i've got to show you is a pile of dirt!)...See MoreWhich would you choose?
Comments (43)#2 is a real palace. The others are more on the McMansion side. My stepmother grew up in a mansion nicer than all the other pictures, with the exception of #5 of course (the Vanderbilt mansion is just a tad bigger). What you see as "wealthy" can all be relative. Let's be thankful everyday for what we have....See MoreWhich rug would you choose for this living room??
Comments (83)Thank you everyone! I do appreciate and like all of the suggestions! It's such a hard choice and I am not sure what direction to go. I am kinda leaning toward one of the more neutral options- both my spouse and I like this one: However, I feel that this more neutral rug might be too safe of an option. The reason why we are getting a new rug is because the current rug looks way to small and does not add anything to the room (appears more or less as a solid silver/light gray color) and just looks "blah." And I want a rug that gives a more warm/welcoming feeling. The obstacle we are running into is trying to determine if the more oriental/persian rugs with more color would clash with the ottoman fabric too much. We might have to wait until we see how the sofa and ottoman look in person to get a better picture. Hopefully we can do a mock up with all the actual furniture in place to help decide. I think it will take some time still to come to a decision since I am so indecisive and it seems what I like changes all the time. The other question is about rug size- we are looking at 9x12 and 10x14 size options- I like the extra room around the furniture that a 10x14 affords us. Here are two mock ups of the room where the furniture is of scale to what we actually have/ordered: Again, super appreciative of everyone's input! Thank you Houzzers :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
