I went by the house in the morning and took a closeup photo (prior to getting confirmation from the contractor and subcontractor) It does look like white oak. @SJ McCarthy thank you for all the information, it gave me ideas on what to ask the contractor and how to have a conversation about the floors. I even came up with a few more stains to try in case the original choices did not work out. The contractor e-mailed me early this afternoon agreeing to test a few more colors. We asked him, again, regarding the type of floors we have and the new ones they installed, initially he said the floors were red oak, but then he texted us an hour later letting us know that the sub had informed him that it was white oak!?! I cant believe the contractor did not know this! It appears my worries about the floors looking red after a light stain were unnecessary. We stopped by the home to see the samples on our "white oak" and the white stain looked nice with the top coat on it, not pink. The birch was nice, but we decided to go with the white as it looks more like the natural color of the wood we love. I am still anxious about the overall outcome, but crossing fingers that it turns out nice. I am going by the house tomorrow and working from my car so I can take a look and stop the workers in their tracks if it looks bad lol. I am just kidding...but maybe I am not :) Here are the two samples we tried Bona Birch and Duraseal White with bona HD on our "white oak" floors (this is not 100% for sure lol). Keep the hardwood if you can. Get a wood flooring expert to quote restaining and advise you on your color choices. With White oak you should be able to add these to your carpeted rooms for a grand unified look. The faux wood options have their place but when you can invest in wood why downgrade. I have LVP throughout my house as budget was the deciding factor but in my community wood flooring would be a smart investment.

you are never going to match pine and red oak, nor should you try. it will look horrible against your new kitchen. So, stay away from the red based statins. on red oak it's just going to intensify, and they don't go w/your kitchen colors. If you want dark, go w/the walnut stains. they are usually an ashy or green base which will cancel out the red tones this one is Dark Walnut look at Bona natural stains. w/your beautiful kitchen I'd concentrate on that. Bona Nordic Seal you aren't giving a big enough picture to see where the new wood meets the old wood. anything you can bridge that gap with like a large runner or something? this way you won't see the old and new meet up at the threshold. stains for the red oak: This one is Rustic Beige from Duraseal. This tone might work w/your kitchen cabs/tile, and won't look horrible against your yellow pine. This is red oak stained with Bona- 1/2 natural, 1/4 gray and 1/4 jacobean w/3 coats of satin clear.

HU, it means "A pigment containing white lead", It actually dates back centuries when people used liming wax to treat wood and furniture to keep insects away. As of now it means, "filling the grain w/a liming wax or white paint without tinting the wood" The grain is deeper than the surrounding wood surface so the pigment fills in. the trick is sealing off the wood portion without sealing up the grain. an alcohol/shellac mixture is used on the wood to prevent it from absorbing the white, but it still leaves the grain open. I use an analine dye on raw wood, and then the shellac mixture. then the liming wax. then it's buffed so that it looks like this
