I love the breezes blowing in through a window and the sheer curtains billowing in and out. The sounds of birds singing and chirping and dogs off in the distance barking...even an occasional car going by out on the road. Your video was very lovely. I really love the setting and the light in your room. Love your tall windows with a wonderful view. Ahhhh...S'wonderful! I LOVED the old Victoria magazine. It was very inspirational to me. I hung lace sheers from my front porch for filtered shade and set a fancy table out there. I planted blue morning glories on strings across my porch and painted my window and door frame federal blue. I had a porch swing and a pretty wreath by my front door and planted flowers like I saw in the magazine just below my porch ledge. I made myself long skirts and white Victorian blouses and crocheted shawls. I placed Doilies on shelves. (still do). I had tea every day in the afternoon, including little sandwiches, cakes or tea cookies, homemade, of course! I planned and carried out a garden wedding, including the catering, from an article on garden weddings in one issue. I had friends over for tea at least once a week. Oh yes, it very much inspired my life back then. I miss those times too. I had been collecting antiques since I was 11 years old, so when that magazine came out it gave me so many wonderful ideas for using all my wonderful things. And I adored the special addition on Tasha Tudor. I still have my old issues and look at them from time to time. ~Annie

Pepper, your cart idea sounds peachy! I could've used a gardening cart when I had an apartment. Hope you'll post pictures if it ever comes to pass. Florantha, I've come to the same conclusion about the stools. It seems like such a nice idea to be able to hide seating away...but not when it's such a tiny cart with tinier seating. I'm so glad to know your family used a similar old table for much the same purpose! I checked out a local antique store today and came across a few possible options. The one with the best body (sexy legs!) ;) was also a little beat up, but I'm hoping DH will let me know if it's worth saving and if so indulge my refinishing it (since it will distract me from wanting to paint the cabinets).

I get asked this every once in a while. While you can attach feet, there are usually two problems: - Getting them secure since they will have a lot of leveraged stress on them. - Having them look appropriate to the rest of the chair and blend with the rest of the leg. I spent some time this afternoon repairing the bottom 1/3 of a couple of office chairs where the casters had split the legs. I ended up cutting off the bottom half of the leg at an angle, securing a new part with epoxy, and running a hickory dowel up the center through both parts. Now I'm restoring the taper to the legs with rasp, plane and sandpaper. I think you'd really have to hate those casters to go through this with all 4 legs on every chair. If you have attached legs, for example on an upholstered easy chair, you can remove and replace them with taller ones. This is fairly easy, screw out / screw in.

Wonderful table!!! Appears to be walnut...likely midwestern. Those tables with that grooved leg were made between 1880 adn maybe 1910...maybe even 1920. The difference in the finish is likely due to the table and 3 leaves being refinished and the other 3 leaves were not. Of course the rack is different wood, it was just for storage....not "furniture". I had it's twin.....but my daughter has it now. Loved that table....It could be a tiny little table in a small apartment, and you could flip a leaf up to eat on....or it could expand to fit a family of 6 or 8. I can't imagine what was patented....that sty;e table was fairly common in the day adn 45 years ago not unusual at farm sales. What kind of leaf support is there? And it appears as if a cleat has been added to the drop leaves to keep them from warping....likely when it was refinished. I saw a table exactly like that, with 5 leaves, oak, all refinished, leaves also redone....sold at a sale 3 weeks ago for $165. In my mind way too little....but it was a tag sale and didn't even sell the first day so the price must have been pretty close.
