Steeplebush - any way to promote more flowers?

Hi all. I have had a Steeplebush for about 2-3 years now, in a large pot. I guess it's pretty 'normal' that the plant is leggy. While my plant looks healthy overall, it's never had much in the way of flowers. (It's in Full Sun, and fully watered, daily, esp in the Summer...)

There may be a tiny puff of flowers on one stalk (with only the tip of the flower having actual white or pink flowers, and the rest of the 'spire' being a sort of neutral shade).. And maybe similar on another stalk or two. But...most of the stalks never get flowers...

I read online about pruning, and it seems there is differing outcomes on whether to prune (which can result in FEWER flowers and SHORTER stalks, but with the flowers that DO appear coming out a larger size overall) or not. What I took from what I read is that.... it might be good for me each year, around the end of April (Zone 6b), and before new growth appears, to cut back SOME of the stalks, but not all.

Any thoughts?

Tx!
