Furniture Home Decorating Design Dilemma

what to do with this wall?

I am finishing up a major remodel thru out most of my house. The wall with the buffet on it was extended out to expand the new kitchen on the other side. I had wanted a china cabinet beside the dining room table but there was not enough room. What do you think I should do with this wall? Built in china cabinet?

You can buy a cabinet. Something in white like this.

Or build a custom cabinet.

Or...if you prefer that your china not show, you could build something like this in a smaller version!

Or, simply put a large painting over your buffet and call it a day!

If you need the storage, get a free standing buffet for your china.

Definitely add a little entry “moment” to the area. With a mirror, console, and some decorative items such as plants, candles, books, photos … On the wall I’d personally probably do a bigger more grandiose crown molding. And base boards and then do a large painting or take a cool photo shoot of the fam jam. I also think adding a large light to the space will add a lot!

Maybe just a really nice large piece of art over a narrow buffet . The wall paper is kind of dead looking. Maybe another wallpaper even, something with some life in it.

The only problem I see adding a bar with a sink under that window which is recessed about 2', plus the additional counter depth you be 4' away or near that, you will never get to open that window without climbing on top of the wet bar, even for cleaning purposes. That said, they also have to keep in mind what they want to spend on this because adding a wet bar will require the whole process, i.e, drawings, permits, and cutting up walls/ceilings to run the drain pipes, water lines, GFCI outlets, etc. and that basement looks like it was finished not that long ago. P.S. In the images I posted, image #1 was a new basement design so everything is open... Picture #2 was a modification to an existing basement, the location of the wet bar, there used to be a laundry room which was relocated to the 2nd floor, so the drain and water lines were already there and needed minor modifications for a sink hook-up.

The white chair seems to interrupt the flow anyway, so have an idea for cabinet‘s location:

- remove side table/floor lamp at couch’s Dining room end

- leave buffet where it is with art above and maybe a lamp and white chair on staircase wall with the table you removed from couch

Then you could add an interesting china cabinet in the freed up space, closer to dining room. It doesn’t have to be too large, given your buffet has storage and add art over dining table to help balance
