Kitchen table and chairs - what will work in our space?

Hey Houzzers!

We're finally at a point where we'd like to replace our "place holder" of a kitchen table/chairs, with a set that actually fits the space and the overall (traditional) look.

Right now, I'm thinking a round or an oval table (needs to be at least 48" in diameter to accommodate our family), and I'm leaning toward glass or some sort of thin (maybe light in color), as I like that space light and airy with that window behind it.

Would love any thoughts or ideas on the overall look/color/style, or specific suggestions. Thanks so much, in advance!

PS: Not looking for critiques of anything else; we realize this isn't everyone's style and most people aren't into traditional these days - but we love everything about our space. :)

Your space is beautiful.

I agree that a round table could be ideal in that space. How about a tulip table?

The space lends itself to a round table, which offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of seating. I like round tables in casual dining areas. I have a 42-inch round and it's too small for 5 people. I recommend at least a 60-inch. You generally want to clear 4 feet around it, which you would accomplish given the dimensions of the actual room. Maybe a mock-up or tape it off to try out a size.

I would first decide how much space you need between the bench and table. A pedestal table seems a good choice in your case. A 60" table sounds big to me if the space is just 67" wide.

How many people generally to be seated. A pedestal works as shown. You could hunt for a drop leaf and keep the one side down and push it furthur to wall if need less seats Normally. Longer rectangular farmhouse or trestle tables are fun and can be a bit more rustic if you desire,

I think a round table would be perfect but I do not think you have space for a proper sized rug so leave the floor bare

I love the idea of a tulip table! Having a hard time picturing what chairs would work best with it. 🤔

Will do some thinking, but any ideas in that regard would be great! 😊

I’m not a pro, but I think one of the best things about a tulip table is how many chair options you have. I can picture it with most of these. (I’m not as sold on the more ornate traditional chairs with it, but I am probably just lacking imagination!)
