Which bathroom flip is the best idea?

First, I would like to apologize for a lack of photos- we haven't moved into the house quite yet.

My family and I are about to move into a house that is under our budget, and plan to use the extra money to make some improvements and hopefully sell it at a higher price in a few years. The main thing that needs work is the kids/guest bathroom, which is currently just bland. It has an outdated, stained alcove tub which will need replacing and 12x12 tan tile that does not go all the way to the ceiling. There are two different routes we are considering:

1) Replace the current alcove tub with a freestanding tub, complete with a pivoting glass door and faux carrara marble tile up the full length of the wall. This would require purchasing a more expensive bathtub, and (we assume) moving the current drain location.

2) Replace the current tub with a new, more modern alcove tub. This would have the same glass door and tile as option 1, so even though it is an alcove tub it will have a sleek look. While the tub itself would be cheaper, and we wouldn't need to move the drain, we would most likely have to pay a contractor to remove the current tub and install the new one (I don't actually know how difficult this project would be).

We are trying to keep our renovation costs at a bare minimum, as there are other rooms in the house that need some work and the market in that area puts a definite cap at what we can expect to get out of resale. I was wondering if anyone had advice about the feasibility of removing the tub ourselves, how expensive it is to move the drain, an opinion on which idea is better, etc.? Any input is appreciated!
