Full StoryThis is bloomong in SW Michigan, July 23, in a mostly grassy open meadow. I can't seem to tell if this a hawkweed (Hieracium), a sow thistle (Sonchus) or a catsear (Hypochaeris), much less which species. It does have clasping leaves like sow thistle but they are not deaply searated and only slightly spiny. The petals don't really look a lot like hawkweed but more like catsear but then the leaves don't fit. As you can see in the photo most of the leaves are at the bottom but they are not really basil. There are very few leaves at the middle and top of the stem and they are very small. I'm stumped, hoping someone can at least narrow this down to genus. TIA.
