Comments (24)NafNaf--Forgive me I am not sure what is different in what you are suggesting? Virgil-- I am not good with the descriptions, but the the house sits in a hill and the sunporch is above the basement patio at least for part of it, the garage is under the house. The lot is pie shaped with the great room facing the narrow end of the pie. I have been working on this all morning and moving furniture in my current living room and measuring and graphing again to double check. Right now my plan will fit a 7.5 x 9.5 sectional facing the west wall, that wall will have built ins and house the tv. The far end of sectional will be about 8' from the TV, this is the exact set up we have in our current home and the configuration is very cozy but nice, also the "L" will be open to stairs, hall etc so not closed off. On the fire place end, I feel like I can set furniture(possibly a pair of 4' settees arranged opposite or a combination of smaller chairs and a settee) about 4' from the back of the sectional and comfortably flow between the sitting areas on the stair side---I measured with the swing of the doors etc. I am keeping in mind that yes its tight if the doors are open but that will not be often. So with my furniture arranging I realized that the slider will just not fit, its much better with large windows that open. I am thinking 4, 6' casements....See MoreI'm tired of the knotty pine vaulted ceiling in my living room.
Comments (18)Those current wall colors are awful as they don't even seem to complement the actual wood tones and they are dark. It looks like an awful murky dreary mess. There has to be a color that lightens and brightens the room without it being a "horrible contrast". There is a veritable universe of light paint colors which read completely differently from each other because of the undertones. You might really benefit from hiring a true color specialist to suggest a specific paint that works best in your room. And of course lighting would make a huge difference....See MoreShould I remove the walls bordering my living room?
Comments (3)I’d keep the walls but widen the opening to kitchen on fireplace wall if you can. If this is part of a plan for kitchen tweaks?? Wait to be certain because it’s a kitchen wall which means it can be a critical wall .....Open the fireplace doors and place pretty potted plants (you have light). tv? Well okay but the wall w fireplace seems a special spot to decorate. The wall w cut out ? Leave for now you can figure it out later . Live in your place and these options become more clear w some time. Not really wise to cut into walls this quick. The fireplace wall just looks like spot to personalize the room at least initially....See Moretwo story living room vs vaulted living room
Comments (23)I've got one these right now. It's a beautiful space, but temperature regulation is an issue. Watching TV is an issue, too. The sound is lost in the room and we have to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear. As a retired appraiser, it makes more financial sense to floor the second story portion. While not a wow factor choice, it increases your useable square footage and will result in a corresponding increase in valuation. The point is, there are a lot more factors involved and unintended results of the decision to go with a 2-story high space....See MoreVirgil Carter Fine Art
