new construction bathroom — do you like my picks so far?

I keep doubting myself with the choices I made! I can’t really go back now until we close on the new house.... but what are your thoughts on this bathroom??! 👀

Countertops will be white quartz and faucet is nickel because our towel bars and shower fixtures in this bathroom are nickel so I wanted to tie in to that. (see pictures).

I think your choices are lovely - I think I recall your light fixture from Shades of Light - I think I'd have the bulbs pointing down. I'd also do a gold faucet as the towel bars and shower fixtures are further away.

Thank you! The towel ring for the hand towel will be right there above the counter. Do you still think gold would be better?

Thanks for the comments. I will let you know how the shower tiles are once we use the shower. (Still need to get door installed and finish the vanity.) I updated the photos and added a close up of the accent tiles. (Excuse the glare of the flash) The tile we used is from United Tile. The primary tile is Lithos Bone from the Keraban line. Not sure of the name of the accent tile, but I believe it is part of the same line. Photos are at same link as above, but for convenience I will include it here. IMO oil rubbed bronze and gray don't look good together. Nor ORB with brushed nickel or chrome. But if you want a dark metal somewhere (such as the lights, or metal on wooden shelves), then maybe use matte black. I think that looks good with chrome. We put a stained alder linen cabinet and some stained shelves in our white and gray bathroom and I like it. We have wood floors, but lighter than your floors. On the white vanity there are chrome pulls, knobs, faucets, we have chrome shower fixtures; but on the stained cabinet there are matte black knobs and pulls, and the light has black as the metal finish. If you want wood somewhere you can do that with a vanity tray, your waste bin, framed art or a framed mirror. I presume there will be a shower curtain, so you won't see the shower fixture anyway. I used SW "crushed ice" as my light gray wall paint because all the other grays were too dark for the space. Crushed ice is in their white collection, but it worked.

No we don't. In fact we found it nearly impossible to find someone to take a brand new commode that had never been used off our hands. An in home care place finally took it. Several family members have had injuries requiring crutches. But they are provided before you are released to go home anyway. So after a while we had several sets. No point in saving them so I donated them. The times we had to have things like wheelchairs insurance paid for them to be rented not purchased. We do have a couple of canes in the hall closet. Nice wooden ones I have no idea where they came from. Most likely from DS's motorcycle accident twenty years ago. he sort of made his cane a fashion statement for a while. ;-) What we are doing is making sure any remodeling we do takes aging in place into account. That includes making sure materials used are low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Hard flooring that is not slippery, ergonomic storage for frequently used items etc. Our attic space is less a storage area now. Less climbing up the pull down ladder. The garage has been cleared of useless junk and DH has built adjustable tables,with storage and such for his specialty tools so he can tinker into his sunset years.

I'll be a contrarian. I would never knowingly rent a room with a shared bathroom in the hall. That would be a complete pass - I don't even like having to use a hallway bathroom in a sleeping situation in which I would share with friends and family because if I need to use it in the night I would have to wake up more/get more decently dressed and I hate having to shlep stuff to take a shower or perform normal grooming stuff in a bathroom. I don't have the horror of viewing a toilet from a bedroom that some houzzers seem to have. It certainly wouldn't bother me on a temporary basis. I have a master bath in my home and I can't remember the last time I actually shut the door. I don't have issues with smells or humidity but perhaps that is because my Toto washlet has a built in deodorizer AND I have an excellent Panasonic fan which runs based on ambient humidity levels. I don't generally even have condensation on shower doors or mirrors after exiting let along huge amounts of humidity wafting through my bedroom. The question really is one of economics. There is a cost to installing the bathroom and OP would need to decide whether they would make up the expense by having increased rent and/or renting it out more frequently. Certainly any prospective renter would see a picture and determine whether they wanted the ensuite with a curtain in the room or use of a bathroom in the hall. Also resale value is a red herring. At such point that OP wanted to sell it would be relatively inexpensive to convert the bathroom into a closet if having the ensuite in that room was a negative.

Thanks so much! Any tips on how I could make it better? Do you all think the light fixture looks dated? I’m not 100% sure about it haha.

I think the light fixture is lovely. It is not dated. I get it now that the towel bar is nickel. You can use a nickel faucet or a gold one. Mixing metals is quite common.

If you point the lights down, I think your mirror is going to look a bit crammed in the space. You need to account for the height of the counter and the matching backsplash (if you have one). Don't forget you also have to account for the height of the faucet and the space behind it.

Yes 2metals on the faucet, or even a hand-towel ring in nickel, or something to bring the metals together in that small vanity space
