Furniture placement challenge in a long "great room"
Comments (10)Based on what you said, I would probably divide the room like you have it now and have a reading/seating area with your chairs by the big windows and a dining area where your tv and chairs are now... if it's not too much trouble to remove the built in or turn that into a built-in China cabinet. I'd move the TV and sofas into the darker current dining room. The current dining room would make a nice, quiet place for movie nights and keep your fabric sofas from fading more. If you have two totally separate seating areas you could even have more than 1 tv since you wouldn't have 2 competing for sound in the same room. This is good if there's more than 1 person in the house arguing over what to watch. It would also bring your dining area into the open concept great room which makes entertaining easier and keeps guests together near the kitchen for easy socializing. It never hurts to move the furniture you have and live with it for a while to see how you like it. You can base final furniture replacement decisions on if you like the different configuration or not....See Moreneed help with tv placement and suggestions on a coffee table!
Comments (4)wonderful room, only a few small tweaks, could really help. you do need a larger stand for your tv, can you pull it out of the corner and put it against the wall? either to the right of where it is cause i can't see there. or where the shelves are or where the chair is. i think you should pull the chair out anyway, not all your furniture needs to be against the wall. here are a couple ideas i would keep the cute little marshalls table and replace one of your side tables with it, it will give you a touch of variation. here are some other choices for coffee tables, i buy reasonable things, if you use your computer, you can hit the key and it will take you to the company. you seem averse to color, but white on black is too loud. let me try some other ones. put one on your chair and they will all match. i have others, and others in a different color if you like all should be under $25....See MoreCoffee Table and Side Table Suggestions
Comments (20)Can you post a link? Two things to take into account with future purchases. --Make sure the wood in the coffee table harmonizes with your wood floors. --The room is small, so something up on legs won't take up as much visual space as a solid coffee table, ottoman, or trunk. Can't tell from your photos if the floor trends toward driftwood or golden oak, but a variation of something like this, or a glass table if you get a great rug will work. P.S. Changed my mind about position of the print chair in the corner. It might look more welcoming to have it face into the room within reach of your future coffee table....See MoreFurniture placement in open concept great room
Comments (8)It's always difficult to position furniture in an open floor plan, especially when there are so many walkways and doorways. I would place a sofa on the long wall to the left of the fireplace, and another sofa perpendicular to that facing the fireplace. That defines the seating area. Then add a console table behind the sofa facing the fireplace, a coffee table in the center, and end tables on either side of the sofa on the long wall. Add a club chair to the right of the fireplace, an area rug and you're all set!...See MoreShadyWillowFarm
