How to layout an odd shaped living room?

I’m struggling with how to layout furniture in our living room. It is a long open room with a screen door and arched doorway into the kitchen.

Currently we have two 3 seater couches that are too large for the space. I am not sure if I should replace both 3 seater couches with a sectional, or keep one and get an accent chair or two? The room also needs to accommodate an upright piano and a tv.

The upright piano should be on an interior wall for its health, so put it on the wall behind the kitchen stove/fridge. Then put your TV on the wall behind the Eating Area. If your sofas aren't the manly, overstuffed, puffy ones, use only one of them on the long wall. Add a pair of upholstered swivel chairs flanking it and looking at each other over a coffee table.

Here is what I recommend

This allows for the piano on an interior wall. Note also that there are clear foot traffic paths.

I normally like no foot traffic between sofa and tv, but not much of a choice in this room.

A sofa and 2 chairs is much more flexible than a sectional, but if you prefer a sectional, it could be replaced by the sofa and 2 chairs.

From your description, I'm not clear on the layout at all...when you say put the tv in the small back room are you talking about the area in this room by the sliding doors? A sketch of the room with dimensions would be helpful, esp for you as you try to lay out furniture and need to decide what fits and what doesn't. I know you said you want a more formal area for when you host guests, but I think, given the toddler, you should start with function first. IMO, a house should give the most space to the maximum utilization. So if you will be needing play space and tv space which will be used on a daily basis, then that should take priority over a formal seating area which may be used less frequently. Rather, there are ways of combining both functions...keeping a play area with toy storage, perhaps by the slider and then incorporating seating and family TV time and entertaining around the fireplace. Regarding the windows, I would suggest that you treat the lower windows as you wish and ignore the upper windows. The vaulting in the ceiling has some odd shapes and some of the window placement is awkward, so I would ignore them ... pretend there is line going around the room where the lower ceiling is and don't decorate above it.

What about something like this to get you started. The sofa has a sofa table behind it. The console is on the wall and a TV would be on it or above it. The 2 chairs would be between the two rooms, but mainly in the other room. The windows have been replaced with your french door.

I like your current arrangement. For more seating, you can use two longer sofas in the same arrangement. Or a sofa with two chairs as you have it but without the ottomans. That leaves room for a backless bench type of seating to face into the conversation area that wouldn't interfere with the TV. With any options, your seating area is rectangular, so a rug would be fine to use. You may have room for a narrow console table behind the sofa facing the tv, if you place a sofa there.

I have another option to consider. This is quick sketch so if you like I can do a cleaner version tomorrow This provides clean walkway behind sofa and I put a round ottoman in space across from piano for extra seating. A swivel chair allows for little conversation spot on that end of room. I also put narrow demi line table near sliders so there is a set down space for bringing drinks and grilling items in and out from patio. Sorry it is so dark. I can lighten up tomorrow. Enjoy!

In my floor plan, the sofa is 85 x 40 and the chairs are 30 x 30. So, please consider that if you are going to use one of your existing sofas.
