Nope, I run warm-to-hot cycles all the time and mine is only connected to the cold water line. This is very peculiar and I would like to figure out what you're seeing. The apparent problem was with the fill, not with the heater, right? But it filled when you only called for a cold wash. Very curious.....! I'm pretty sure that all 1918's can be configured to cold fill only. This is probably a really silly question, but when you had the splitter on you did have water supplying both inlets, not just the cold one? The splitter has to run from the cold line to both inlet ports in order for the machine to operate correctly. Or did the machine simply not take in any water from one leg of the splitter? That puzzles me. Are all four of your incoming water line filters clean? If you have another machine that needs hot water you'll need to connect it directly to the hot water line, then attach a splitter to the cold water line. One leg goes to your non-Miele machine's cold inlet, but then the other leg is split again and each of those legs is connected to the Miele. So you'll have to have two splitters to accomplish this. My set-up with Miele and Asko machines is like this: Cold water line attached to the first splitter, then one leg of the first splitter is split again and each of the two legs of the second splitter is attached to an incoming water line on the Miele. The second leg of the first splitter (still with me?) is attached to the Asko which has only one (cold) inlet. I also love the delay wash option, but find it important when doing a delayed wash to make sure the detergent tray is perfectly dry before putting the detergent in. If it's damp the detergent (I use powder) can get sticky and then not fully dump in the wash phase, causing poor rinsing when it finally dissolves in the rinses. I had never had a delay feature but find it much more useful than I imagined. I usually have a load set to finish when I get up; I find it jump starts the day's chores nicely. I'm pretty sure your machine can be set up like mine, we just need to figure it out. Molly~

With adequate ventilation (outdoors is preferred) the methylene chloride (MC) strippers still work better than anything else. I routinely remove trim fr stripping, and cannot remember the last time a piece was damaged by removal. It just takes a lot of patience and gentle prying. If you cover MC stripper with plastic wrap (I use the wider thicker food service grade) it slows evaporation enough to remove MANY layers of finish in a single application. The cheap plastic drywall knives have been a boon (I used to purchase plastic sheets (PVC) and shape them and then drill a hole to use on a cabinet scrapper handle in place of the metal blade). You can even cut them to shape for molding patterns (used more like a scrapper at 90 degrees than a 'knife' at a lower angle). Sawdust is also great for rubbing away softened paint (clay type kitty litter works if you do not have a lot of sawdust). MC is hazardous to folks that may have compromised blood circulation to the heart. It behaves much like carbon monoxide and ties up the ability of heme on your blood to carry oxygen.

Wait a minute, how small is this kitchen? And how concerned are you about resale value? You don't want to get too crazy minimizing the size of things when (a) really, it all will fit, and (b) a two-burner cooktop may be adequate for you but not for anyone you'd want to sell the apartment to. My kitchen is tiny by anyone's standards, yet I have a 30" fridge and a 30" range. I have an 18" dishwasher, which is perfectly adequate - I splurged on mine and got the Miele which has a separate cutlery tray so I don't need to take up space in the bottom rack for a silverware basket. A single-drawer dishwasher wouldn't have worked for me since I didn't have the 24" width. Venting is tough as most NYC buildings will not let you vent to the outside. I have an OTR microwave with recirculating filter - not ideal, but better than nothing. If you have room to put the microwave elsewhere (or don't need one), you can put a recirculating hood over the stove - it might work slightly better than the vent on the microwave. I would *not* get a non-standard size oTR microwave as there are practically none available (even fewer models than there are 18" dishwashers!), and I would be concerned about replacing it if it broke. That's one of the reasons I didn't consider a 24" range - I couldn't find a 24" OTR m/w to put over it. You don't need to get a tiny sink. Really, unless your kitchen is way smaller than mine, you'll probably have at least a 24" sink base, and you'll be able to fit a standard size single sink. Mine is about 22" x 16" in a 27" sink base; Blanco also makes one that's slightly smaller for a 24" sink base. (I think they might have been able to fit my sink in a 24" sink base if they notched the sides of the cabinet.) Thing is, you can't own a word. Yes, you can prosecute a person who tacks Architect after his name AS A TITLE on a formal document, but if the word is used in causal conversation -- as is discussed above -- you don't actually have a leg upon which to stand, and anyone who's using it in this "skirting the line" way knows exactly what he's doing, but you aren't going to be able to prosecute him. This is a frequent issue with "engineer" because people see it as a generic term kind of meaning "technical person". My husband has an engineering degree from a university. He is an actual engineer. However, during college I had a part-time clerical job in a construction company's front office, and they termed all their draftsmen "Drafting engineers". All of them were skilled draftsmen and knew plumbing (which is what they were drafting), but none of them had an actual degree. In the 70s housewives called themselves "Domestic engineers". We teachers see it too. I have a degree and a license from the state; I design curriculum in accordance with the state course of study, deliver instruction, track student progress -- everything an actual teacher does. Yet day care staff who have only a high school diploma and who do nothing more than hand out coloring pages are often termed "preschool teachers"; while their supervisors probably do have degrees and are overseeing curriculum, most of them are not teachers at all. Likely it's "a thing" in other arenas of which I'm unaware. Used officially as a title, yeah, see 'ya in court, Buddy. Note that JDS' official term even specified "title". Used in casual conversation ... eh, no; you'll not succeed.
