Advice on Gallery Wall

I want to place a hanging gallery wall in my dining room (similar to picture). However, we have one piece of canvas that we would love to include as well bc it is a favorite from our wedding. It is one piece of white canvas with tiny squares of pictures. Can anyone provide guidance of how to mix one canvas with pictures and make it looks aesthetically pleasing? do I need to do frameless pictures? do I need to frame the canvas? Or is this a big "dont recommend"

I ahve to say personal pics are never my favorite in non private spaces. I also think if you have one piece you love use it by itself. I find gallery walls generally take away from each piece that is displayed I like my art to be stand alone and be appreciated by it self I will tell you if you want help witht his you need to post pics of all the pieces you are thinking of using. There are people on here who love gallery walls and are quite helpful

It may look odd to insert a sentimental piece on a wall gallery ...with otherwise decorative art...and in a dining room it may be a distraction ...personal pictures are nice when placed where people can linger comfortably ...for viewing

Here are some examples I thought were attractive, but not quite used in the way I'm imagining (edited to fix all the messed up pics): I especially like these because I'm leaning toward a mid-tone greyish for the wall, maybe black or also grey for the furniture, and then white gallery frames: Another with the dark wall for tv/av stuff. In my living room, the "tv stand" (dresser) has a bunch of av equipment and gaming consoles on it, and they aren't going anywhere else, unfortunately. So I'm planning to go for this type of camouflage (maybe not quite so dark as the room is already dark): This is so pretty with the mirrors: Here I like how they blocked the wall with a fun color - may help for balancing out the shelf unit on the other side in my room (although it would be oriented vertically rather than horizontally): Another wall next to a shelf: This photo grouping seems to balance the floor lamp, maybe? Does this work because there are photos both on the shelf to the left of the tv as well as on the surface to the right of the tv? Our entertainment dresser surface won't have space for anything on it other than consoles and av equipment. Just adding because I like the rainbow effect:

Thanks, mspanama. We love it. In looking again at your pictures, I wonder if you could make the kitchen an "L' and extend the counter where you have the sitting area. The kitchen sink area looking through the opening seems awkward. If you were to put the sink by the window, you have a nice outlook. With an "L", would you have room for an island (I know the wall can't move)? If so, you could add a long but slender island and have seating there. If not, perhaps you could create a nook by the wall where the sink is currently. You could build two short benches that come out from the wall, and put a small table between. Or you could do a longer bench nook that stretches across the wall with the short part of the "L" extending out from the window side. If you do the latter, you could possibly incorporate a small shelving unit for cookbooks, serving dishes, etc. on the outer part of the bench that sticks out. It's hard for me to see the full space in the pictures to know what you could fit in there.

Thanks! I feel better now. I just didn't want to have overkill on the ferris wheels :) I might sit on it a bit before moving them all closer though because what a pain that is to get them up and straight the first time lol. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and making me feel better about it. By the way...that stand is just an old dresser from the 70s that my parents had ditched to the basement at their house. I rummaged it out and redid it. It has been one of my favorite pieces I have. I love that when that happens :)

I love your art! Also love how you're putting a very personal touch on this space. I might enlarge some of the family photos and incorporate into the gallery wall instead of adding floating shelves, as the enlargements will have more impact. I'd work to fill the gallery wall, nearly floor to ceiling. Just have fun with it! The guy on the sofa made me chuckle. He seems to be saying ",just do what you want", and I've seen "that look" many times in my own home. ;)

I think art should always be personal in some sense (and not merely chosen to fill a blank space), and should be hung in your home wherever it would please you to see it. There are no "rules". I absolutely think you can mix your canvas with other framed pieces, and even pieces of varying mediums. My powder room gallery walls are hung with unframed canvases, framed originals and prints, framed photos, and textiles. It works because it's visually interesting ... and because it speaks to who we are and what the lives in our household enjoy.

I have vintage Native American photographic portraits hanging in my dining room. Like I said, no "rules". 😁

I like personal touches in a person's personal home so I am a dissenter.

What I have done is outlined in the following.

Take all of your pictures and lay them out on the floor on the floor. Place them in a configuration that makes shape and colour sense and also makes a fairly nice shape if you wish it to be formal.

Once you have something pleasing to your eye check your measurements and measure it on the wall. Make sure you have every picture placed exactly the way you want it. Then proceed to hang the pictures and and the artwork.

Some people use blue painters tape and design the shape on the wall. That works if you have all your colours and shapes measured and you know they're going to look good together.
