Looking for Blue and White Something for Bedroom Wall
This is for a guest bedroom that my mother uses. It’s a small room but has an en suite bathroom and three nice windows that overlook the golf course. There are two twin beds with distressed White shutter type headboards. The chest of drawers between the bed was from my daughter‘s handpainted childhood furniture. The wall color is SW Moomist.. There is a seven foot long corridor into the room (that passes by the bathroom) where I have pastels of our three kids. There is a small antique wicker desk and chair painted a very pale pink.
I have ordered these sheets and bed skirts (below) from Annie Selke; they are a thin white 100% cotton (made in India if that helps you visualize the type of fabric) edged with a very small ruffle. In a stroke of dumb luck I came upon curtain panels in what looks to be identical fabric with one tiny ruffle at the seam of the rod pocket and three rows of the same small ruffle at the bottom of the panels.
This all cotton quilt in blue is also on order. One pillow will be a quilt sham and the other will wear the case from the sheet set. Now for the question!
Iam looking for something to hang above the dresser. In our old house the bedskirts were pink and green and the duvets were pink and white buffalo check. I used four silhouettes of our dogs matted in pink and green. I could have these re-matted but would rather use something else. I have no idea where to even start except that I know I want to use a blue and white scheme. Mynatural I clinatio to use blue and white plates but I would love something unusual. No idea is too “out there” to consider.

Bedroom as it is now. These duvet covers did not work, blue was almost navy. Despite the picture looking very pink, the chest has a great deal of blue. Pay no attention to bedskirts which were from several redecoratings ago. Dogs above chest must go. Just realized I cannot have the green removed as it’s not a mat, it’s the background.
This is a photograph of two bluebirds that I could purchase in a size 24” x 24”, and frame however I want. The blues might be wrong (?) but I like the idea as there are flocks of birds —and bluebirds— flying by those windows. I like botanical prints also but i want something fresh looking, iykwim, maybe a modern version of a flower print.
Actually trying to distract myself from worry, DH has another surgery tomorrow and I cannot sleep.

Comments (10)Nice room! Lovely bed and great bedding choice! Your TV solution is just fine! First -- consider adding bamboo blinds (or woven blinds) to your windows. Hang them so that they would disguise the window moldings -- and hide the fact that the windows are different sizes. THEN hang your pretty curtains. The blinds would add to the "natural" vibe of your decor -- plus add visual texture and interest. Next -- consider lighting. Add lamps (Maybe oil rubbed bronze?) around the room -- matching ones on each side of the bed. Plus one on the dresser and perhaps a standing one by the long mirror. Or you could hang the mirror and add a lamp over it for even better lighting. Then -- head over to art.com website. Simply browse through some of their categories and see what kinds of artworks "grab" your attention. Flip through decor magazines and see what artworks work for you too. For a simpler artwork solution -- hang two 5x7 black-and-white photos of your home or family or local antique scenes or gardens ((just examples!!)) -- mat them in larger-than-normal sizes and frame them in black -- over your dresser. The larger sized mats will make the photos look more fresh and modern. I would not hang anything on the walls around the bed area until you get some lamps there first ..... and try the bamboo blinds. Comments (4)You may want to start saving inspiration rooms you love; it will really help if you have a direction. I would purchase the rug fist vs bedding and cushions so you have a style to build on. Be sure to use various colors, patterns and textures so it feels more interesting The headboard is high and I think art above each night stand would be more complimentary and use small brass lamps for a modern look. My sister has Queen Anne antique furnishings and dark walls and has 2700k lighting. The whole home is moody. I have MCM furnishings, light walls, bold jewel tone colors and 5000k lighting. 4 years agoDH is still in surgery and I am in a waiting room. Everything is going fine so I am trying to breathe deeply and not worry too much.
Ive looked in several times and love all these suggestions! jterrilynn, i adore that pagoda shelf and wish it did not fight with the shutter headboard vibe I already have going on. If I was designing a room from scratch that would be a great piece to start with!
I did think about wallpaper for the whole room but decided to paper the bathroom instead . Love the prints and the pressed , framed flowers Idea. my mother and I both adore blue hydrangeas, so that is a great possibility.
The painted motif on that chest of drawers is just so bossy I agree with those who advised keeping it as simple as possible. I have ordered this mirror from Ballard’s to check the color; if it works I think both the size (30” x 24”) and style will work really well.
The mirror is wood and apparently the paint is not completely opaque. I even thought, if I did not love thecolor, I could have a decorative painter do a soft blue and white gingham on that surface. Ida, I am a huge gingham fan and in fact have two navy and white gingham Occasional chairs In the main living area. And the same gingham along the bottom edge of the host and hostess parsons chairs in that shame room. Best of all, this $500 mirror was on sale for $415, and I used a $100 rewards certificate on the purchase.
So you see I have not been idly waiting :). The room also has a long wall opposite the windows and I am already dreaming of pressed flowers.... jinx I would love to see your work!

Rather than dishes or plates, how about some woven baskets ... I kind of like the extra texture they provide and the hand craftedness.

4 years agoI don’t know that this will go thru, but this is the before/after pressing of a blue hydrangea from a bridal bouquet. The second was as the flowers came out of the press—they’re not mounted or framed yet at that point. I can show you privately the finished mounting and what that entails, but it’s part of a collection for the bride and I don’t want to post it publicly. But this below gives you an idea. It’s really lovely and takes on a vintage patina over time.
