Hi everyone! Finally, I get to post an update!! I used Aura latex matte & tried my best to blend in with the existing stain on the columns/shutters (which actually need to be restained....add it to the list!) BM said the pigments would hold up better to UV in the Aura paint? Fingers crossed. I also replaced the awful cheap plastic door bell ringer. For a few more bucks.....builders could upgrade something that is the very first thing seen....okay - off my rant!! LOL Here is an inside shot for those that wonder what dark doors look like w white trim. I like it becuz it relates back to the wrought iron railing in my foyer. And can I just say that my flowers are suffering terribly from the heat wave here in the South!! Oh yeah, what color should I plant my concrete planters? Thank you. Smiles:)

Not the kind of door I was expecting. An awful lot of glass for a front door that will double as a soccer goal. Personally, I would most often choose a hardwood for a front door, but in the case of this door, I think the mix of materials, especially the mahogany, might not work as well. Actually I think VGF would look great with this door. I grew up hating fir, but for this application it might be a perfect match with this design. My friend just did an architect's large office in all VGF (vertical grain fir). A large firm, therefore a large office with several office suites and boardroom. Similar design feel as your door. You would have to seal and finish it very well and keep it up with a softwood, but that goes with what ever species you choose. You must have a contemporary home because the door, especially as a front door, looks almost commercial, like a doctor, lawyer, architect office. Any other questions, just ask. My personal preference for a front door of a more classical type would be one of the mahogany species, although it can get pretty expensive, but it can finish up beautifully. After all it is common in custom furniture and for yacht cabinetry when teak is not used. Richard

njbuilding143 - the supplier should have a swatch-color-card that you can reference. (It has a clear vellum door, and then swatches of 'stained grain' that you can overlay to see how it looks. Our window supplier (who stocks therma-tru doors) gave us one to keep as we were debating colors too.

I agree with the Halcyon! It flows with the main house color, but highlights the cedar shake just enough. About the Rainwashed vs Sea Salt- can you get samples painted on the house to compare and see exactly how they look throughout the day? In general it's always best if you can see a paint color on the wall you're planning on using it on, colors look different on a screen vs on a wall with light and shadows, etc.
