Do I have room for a climber here?
Comments (4)It depends totally on your chosen gardening style. Some gardeners like their roses to have enough room to be separate, neat, tidy, surrounded only by mulch, and not touch other roses. Others (I am one of these) like the lush look of roses intermingling. I have so many roses and so not enough sun in my garden that I would plant a climber on your fence in an instant - closer to the fence, and to the right of your AD. You can train it horizontally along the fence once it gets going. Re depth, you can sort of espalier it on the fence and keep it very shallow. I have a climbing tea (which are famous for spreading out) rose which I have done this with. It is growing up the wall of our house in a rectangular bed that is only 8 inches deep, alongside of our narrow driveway. So, I have had to keep it out of the driveway. It had to fit between the wall of the house and the driveway, until it got 10 feet tall, after which there was a little more room. It is now over 10 years old, over 12 feet high, 7 feet wide, and only about 12 inches deep. Very happy and blooms all of the time. So, I agree with catsrose - go for it! Jackie...See MoreHelp! Do I have enough clearance between sink & toilet?
Comments (4)You've got enough room there. The code is more than generous for comfort. Our #@)&$*( plumber roughed everything in a minimum of 3" off and I only spot checked a couple of things that were critical before building the walls (stupid, I know!) and due to a waste stack that shifted a few things, our formerly planned 5' long toilet stall ended up being a full 10" shorter, JUST to code @ 50" long. It's totally comfortable both for me and DH who is 6'3 and all leg. Here is a picture of my toilet stall. Basically the front edge of your sink would be where my wall is based on your dimensions. The fact that it's a pedestal will make it feel even more open....See MoreDo I have enough room for a counter overhang?
Comments (10)Thank you for your responses. To answer your question about why I cannot have a single level counter top (my preference), well, that is due to some plumbing issues that are under our Home Owners Associations control. Pense - Unfortunately, I cannot utilize the 6" on the island or dining area due to the plumbing location. Not a lot of flexibility there. I agree with your statement about lifestyle. You are right about that. Babs - I'm sorry I missed that discussion. I searched for exactly that kind of conversation, but came up empty. Great information to know. I think it will be too tight as well, if they were used at the same time. Honestly, I see the counter area as more of a transitional area... cocktails, appetizers... then move over to the table for dinner. As to the software, it is a very old version of Chief Architect. Dseng - Thank you for the by the book numbers. I moved some tables around here and found those numbers to be very close to what we discovered. I believe your have defined it nicely... most likely too tight for simultaneous seating...simultaneous being the key....See MoreDo I have enough room in Guest Bedroom?
Comments (40)Hi Cp, I just happened to check out the decorating forum and saw your thread. I just learned last night how to use Paint. Now I cannot stop! I played with a WAY out of the box idea. I am sure it is a no-go as it might effect the ceilings below in the living room. I know you plan those gorgeous built ins next to the fireplace. I will post it anyways though. I owe you big time for helping me on my cabin plan, but somehow I don't think THIS one counts as returning the favor. LOL! It is a little crazy, but I was trying to figure out how to use the wasted space in the long hallway by stairs. I was thinking, what about a T-shaped staircase where at the landing the stairs split. The one side goes into the bedroom and the other to your art studio. You could do a second door by the elavator hallway to get to the bathroom. It would give plenty space for the murphy bed anyways. ;-)...See MoreLala
