Brushed nickel vs Satin Nickel

First off - are these finishes “in style” for kitchens? I’m talking knobs, pulls and faucets.

Second, is there much difference between the two?

I found knobs/pulls i like in satin and a faucet I like in brushed. The internet tells me the naked eye won’t notice a difference but I haven’t seen them in person yet so I thought I’d ask.

One more question - any thoughts on mixing metals? I’m leaning towards brushed nickel hardware and faucets and am loving an antique brass light fixture- thank you!

Nickel and brass look really good together! The brass finish will help bring out the yellow undertones in the nickel. Some slight variations that are very popular at the moment are polished nickel and brushed brass finishes.

As far as satin and brushed nickel go, you won't really notice a different between the two and they are often the same.

First, I'll say if someone can find "Brushed Nickel" and "Satin Nickel" in the same brand, it would be me. I've fallen IN LOVE with American Standard "Portsmouth" line. And noticed our bathroom remodel cost climbing up up up. So I decided to forgo the high end shower head and go with a less expensive one since all the hardware that's under the wall will be the good stuff. Then in a years time (or whenever the bottom line head craps out) we'll be lined up to replace with the more expensive stuff. And what do I realize in the "online check-out?!" It's BRUSHED NICKEL!! Ugh!! Darn you American Standard!! Now, not sure what I'll do. Probably bite the bullet and buy the good stuff next paycheck. Second, I read the thread mentioned above: brushed or satin nickel and was falling asleep in the beginning. But about half way in I started cracking up!! Too funny. Still haven't got my question answered though *Sigh*.

Brushed finishes literally have fine brush marks (microscratches?) in the plated finish (or in the metal under the plating). Satin can be a finish achieved by media-blasting the metal to a matte finish with no discearnable scratches in any direction. But, sometimes a manufacturer will call brushed "satin". I was just told by a man at Lowe's that Price Pfister doesn't make Satin Nickel, but I just ordered 5 faucets off Ebay last week in that finish. Now I need to add Roman Tub & 3 handhelds to the list. Problem is, I need these quick, so I can't go the Ebay route, I have to use Lowe's. Can someone please let me know if what the Lowe's man said is true, and whether or not Satin Nickel and Brushed Nickel are really the same finish? Even though these are bath faucets, I'm posting here because I hoped someone might know the answer to this after purchasing a kitchen faucet. Thanks!

I am what I am...have you tried googling? You could do that, instead of asking this community to do such a simple thing for you. “Pearl (Matte) Nickel. Nickel is plated over a glass bead blasted surface, and then lacquered to provide a semi-gloss or flat sheen. Left uncoated, this finish is commonly used on industrial or commercial parts to provide corrosion resistance.” Satin nickel=brushed nickel. Google is your friend.

Personally, I prefer fixtures & hardware be in the same color "family". For example, brushed/sating nickel (very little, if any, difference) in the "silver" family -- pewter, iron, etc. Brass with "yellows".

I have both brushed & satin nickel fixtures and door hardware in my kitchen (along with antique iron cabinet hardware) and you cannot tell the difference b/w the brushed and satin. In some cases, I think it's just the name a particular manufacturer uses. There is no yellow in any of my nickel hardware or fixtures.
