Here’s my backyard.

Sun room is mostly gone. Chewy hunting for the chipmunk.

my green onions and baby cilantro you can't really see. All the white stuff is styrofoam that fell into it when they took the roof off the sun room. I'm going to try and vacuum it up with my son's car vac, that I just realized I forgot to take to him this week. You can see the door frame and back door better.

Are you going to add a new room? What are your plans for that space? For a moment I thought you were growing white plastic forks in your garden bed! Chewy is cute.

Kathsgrdn, it is always exciting when we do big and little jobs around the house. The weather has been in the 90's for awhile. So hard to get anything done outside, but we persevere.

Excited to come home and find a baby cantaloupe!
Winter squash is loaded with them.New side garden with the winter squash, watermelon, cantaloupe and pumpkin. I transplanted four purple morning glories along with fence and didn't know if they would survive but they're all doing good and starting to climb the fence. They may flower by October.The only pumpkin I could find. I did find a couple baby watermelon too.

Emily eating squash leaves and my giant shadow. For some reason she loves to eat the leaves of this plant.front garden. Black-eyed Susan have finally bloomed! Came home Thursday night to find my Shasta Daisies were pushed over on top of the allium. I got one of my unused trellises and some twist ties and tied some of it back up. It's still flopped over on the one side.loaded with tomatoes that are taking forever to ripen

Ded-tired, There's going to be a new Trex porch with a new roof there.

Just a suggestion for vacuuming the styrofoam. Hold the nozzle about a foot off the ground at an angle moving it back and forth. If the foam is dry most of it will float up into the nozzle. If you hold the nozzle close you could be vacuuming up both plants and growing mix.

The Trex. I hope I made the right decision.Other side yard. My experimental potato patch and sad flower garden in the raised bed. It was planted late. The giant oak that is partially shading my raised beds now. I can't decide whether or not to cut it down. Storage building that needs the door fixed and new ramp. Going to try and scrub it and repaint it this summer too. Also have to take out the shrubs underneath it. One side are all dead so it looks weird. Tree to the right is a crabapple. I'm going to try and grow morel mushrooms under there. I already have the little fencing to keep the dogs out, manure and spawn in the fridge. Just waiting for time to do it. Will be another experiment.The tree to the left is my weeping cherry, that is sadly lopsided because it had grown up against the sun room all its' life. The tree to the right is the other giant pin oak. The tree limbs drying on the ground to the right of that is what is left of the Japanese maple that my daughter cut down. We moved it to where the forsythia/honeysuckle mess was that I have been trying to get rid of for years. Hoping it would help kill it out. I'll eventually cut and bag it up too. Thinking of moving some of the ornamental grass that is near the porch over there for privacy and to choke out what's left of the above mentioned bushes.

A suggestion for the oak tree. If you have a tree service limb it up you would have more sunlight. I just had it done to the pin oak in the front yard because it had some dead branches. The arborist had to remove more that the 1/3 of the height because of where the dead ones were located.

No pictures here between the sewer cave in and removing small trees that had grown up in the last 8 years everything is a mess.

Here's a photo of "my" trex deck, color is "saddle". The ceiling is tongue 'n groove cedar.

The only thing in bloom at the moment. The clematis was red.

Maifleur03, my yard isn't exactly pretty right now. The mowers didn't mow when I was gone this week. Now they can only mow the front yard because of all the stuff on the grass. Everyone tells me to cut the bottom limbs but that's one of the things I like about the trees, the weeping nature of the bottom limbs. I have had to cut the branches that are over shadowing the garden beds, though.

I just wanted to say please don't cut down a healthy live oak tree!

I dont have a picture right now but I have a big oak tree with branches that are weeping all the way to the ground. I love how it looks. It's on a hill so the branches only touch the ground on the side that faces my house. I have to part the branches to fill the bird feeders hanging on it. It's like a secret hideout. I planted some mammoth elephant ears under it because they are shade loving.

Talk to a real arborist. you may find that with those limbs removed the ones above them will drape. There are some people who may have the credentials but only know an oak is an oak.

Amlou, my dog, Chewie, loves it under the one pin oak.

This popped up on my Timehop today, the shrubs under the windows have sage bushes now. Of course, the bushes on the side of the front porch are trimmed.

Love your pics everyone! Wish I had a green thumb. Anytime I want to plant something DH says, "No, not something else to mow around!" Oh well. We are thinking of replacing our 20' x 15' deck with Trex in the next few years.

Go to the Dollar Tree and buy a package of those nylons that some "old" ladies wear that are short and put it loosely on the end of the vacuum hose. Secure with rubber band. Then you can Vacuum up the styrofoam and dirt just a little at a time. If you pick up too much or a plant then you can save it. Just keep a bucket nearby to drop the styrofoam and dirt into.

I had to do something like that and that nylon hose really did a good job.

Love having a peek at your homes and gardens. Here are two views from the woodhouse , our main home. First is the backyard. The fence was installed by our new neighbor. I know it was installed with the wrong side facing me. Recently removing trees that were unhealthy or too close to the house has given me the opportunity to revise the gardens and hardscape. Thus new garden area is a work in progress. We have a grass lawn there now for the first time in 40 years. Unfortunately, now the hostas get too much afternoon sun. I planted the black eyed susans yesterday. I hope they deter the deer.

These hydrangeas grow at the riverhouse. They were thriving when we purchased the house 18 years ago. They flank what we refer to as the cottage or the little house, originally a duck cottage built before 1930. There is a larger house on the property also which is the one we live in.

I have nurtured these tucked in another corner of the little house. I am happy to see so many blooms this year. I usually clear the ground cover away from the plants to give them more breathing room, but have not gotten around to it. Looks like the hydrangeas are happy despite my neglect.
