I just had one of these cut down at the beginning of the summer, but I see that sprouts have come up from the stump. Would you like for me to try to root these for you? Otherwise I'm going to compost them and attempt to kill the stump.

Sometimes a hose-end sprayer can reach that high.

Thanks, Ken. I apologize for the ambiguity as I am a new homeowner. I'll try to provide more helpful information. I live about 15 minutes south of Cincinnati, OH. No, we didn't have a drought last summer. The two most significant weather occurences we suffered were: remnants of Hurricane Ike last fall and a severe ice storm in January. By all outward appearances, neither episode impacted my other young trees. The crabapple did appear to get off to a successful start this spring, sprouting lots of green leaves and berries, but then suddenly took a turn for the worse. I've taken pictures, but I can't figure out how to post them within this message. Do you know how? Again, thank you for your time.

Thanks Konrad. I'm averse to pruning, unless I absolutely have to, so I'm glad to get your feedback on that. I was worried about branches breaking in future from the fruits' weight if the tree isn't shaped well. I've got it in the ground now and it it seems to be quite happy. The growing tips were a bit droopy white in the bag, but since planting out and watering well, they have perked up beautifully. Sadly the last little fruit that was on the tree fell off, so I won't get to see its proper size this year. All for the best I think. More energy to grow until fall.
