New or newly discovered food products?
Comments (74)Fig Balsamic vinegar. This stuff is great for dipping rustic breads as well as great over vanilla ice cream. We gave it away as Xmas gifts and everyone we gave it to is raving. I bought it locally at a gourmet food store. Also, I recently discovered LaTortilla Factory whole grain tortillas. Yummy! We have a panini maker and use it occasionally. I love this recipe for all panini sandwiches. It turns a bland panini into a special sandwich. I know it is measured by oz. I just guess. It is wonderful! Balsamic-Mustard Vinaigrette Combine in a blender: 4 oz. balsamic vinegar 4 oz. vegetable oil 1 oz. Beaver brand sweet and hot mustard 1/2 oz. Italian seasoning 1/4 oz. red pepper flakes Blend on medium to high for 30 to 60 seconds. Transfer to a squeeze bottle for applying to bread and seasonal greens. Remainder may be kept in an airtight container for two to three weeks....See MoreWater damage in new house discovered at possession :(

We are redoing our kitchen due to a leak - FWIW, we had the insurance pay out what it would have cost to put it back "exactly the way it was", while it was somewhat a pain to have to quote stripping and replacing wallpaper and rebuilding up the floor to the original height, this allowed us to take that money and our own funds and gut the kitchen and do it the way we wanted. Yes unplanned remodel has been a huge inconvienence and unplanned expense - but it also allowed us to remodel the way we wanted and for quite a bit less of our own money than if we had done it later. Something to think about. I'd also highly recommend getting your own contractor you trust - dont use their people unless you feel 100% comfortable with them. Have your contractor quote what it would be to put it back the way it was - have the insurance pay you out and then decide what you really want to do. Have the contractor quote it out Firm Fixed Price (FFP) for the insurance. It really sounds like you should also fight to have the cabinets declared a complete loss -- uppers and lowers due to the mold and moisture - likely less expensive too to replace with new rather than having something custom made to match the existing. if the cabs need to come out to ensure it gets dry (likely if they were in contact with the wet floor -- water seeps up boxes and damages them - then they need to take the counter out too and are likely to replace that as well. Good Luck!...See MoreDo you have a home decor (or home-related) blog?
Comments (44)Here's a link to my blog. I use blogger. There are plenty of options on page layouts and color choices to select from and you can change your format anytime. My blog is geared toward the general stuff in life. My kid, my house, general nothing-ness. Mostly for sharing stories and photos for my family & friends since I live 2 and 3 hours away from them and don't get to have weekly visits to grandma & grandpa's house like I did when I grew up. As for how often do I post & what topics come best? I average about 1-2 posts a week. Sometimes a couple more, sometimes less...just depends on what happens around here. Just look at my tags on the blog and you can see the things I post about most...my daughter and my house. I just keep things simple and don't over-think any post. The best part for me is to share the cute things my daughter comes up with. Gayle Here is a link that might be useful: Gayle's Ramblings...See MoreDo you have any news?
Comments (82)Robo, Emmett is just a doll! Such a fun age. Fingers crossed for #2! So sorry Emmett has been sick so much, but it’s a blessing DH can be a stay at home dad! Neetsiepie, did you find a home for the rabbit? Glad DH was able to catch. Faron, good luck with your surgery. You too, pudgeder. Sueb20, DH is semi-retired and it is cutting into my quiet time! He will be fully retired in a few months at 62yo. He’s not 100% ready to retire mentally, but physically he is falling apart (degenerative disc disease, arthritis - neck, back, knees, hands). He can’t do much without getting hurt. His big thing has always been walking, swimming and working out. Now he’s able to walk (but not as fast or far), only tread water (no more laps) and working out with weights or doing CrossFit anymore is a no-no. His only hobby besides that is reading. He loves to travel, but we can’t travel all the time. :-/ Jojoco, love Longwood Gardens! Visited when my parents were living in Carlisle for Army War College. What a great place to be a tour guide! LynnNM, where do you think you will retire to? Congrats on the engagements, babies, Yankee nephew (how cool is that!?) and retirements! Sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis, RNmomof2. Glad it was caught early. dedtired, my gallbladder was removed about 20yrs ago. My advice (and I know everyone is different) but know where ALL the bathrooms are when you are out and about. For months, it would hit me out of nowhere. I wasn’t eating fried foods or salads (a big trigger for awhile). A nurse told me a few months later that if they told people some of the side effects of having the surgery, many would not have it removed. It does get better though. Sorry to hear about your skin cancer, Lars.. and the loss of your family members, texanjana. I feel for you on the executor/estate issues. My parents passed six weeks apart, and it took 2yrs to get Mom’s estate return blessed, and I am still waiting on Dad’s. You have a lot of on your plate the past few years, and your DS. Glad he is doing better. Enjoy your cruise. I am glad you’re taking some time for yourself. Congratulations, Sochi, to you and your DH. His trip with DS will always be a special memory. We moved a year ago, and I’m enjoying the new house. It’s great to be closer to town, our children and grandchildren. DD2 just celebrated their 1st anniversary. We love her DH, and he obviously loves both of them - a package deal with DGS. One of our dogs tore her ACL and Meniscus, and it nearing the end of the 6 weeks of being on a leash, which was after 6 weeks in the crate. I hope and pray her other one does not blow, but the odds are 50/50 within the first year. At least I have the crates and supplies, along with the experience, if it happens to her other rear leg. She is such a sweetie, it was heartbreaking. Oh, and she did it only 4 days after we had to put one of our 13yo dogs down. Our 12yo Lab has seizures, and had 2 in 3 days about a month ago. We thought he was going to be gone too, but he has not had another seizure since then. We have several short trips planned, mostly to concerts. DH would like to globetrot again, so if we can get him feeling well enough to go, I will force myself (I am such a homebody, I would rather stay at home!)....See MoreTina Marie
