It is a bit cool for the warm toned walls. You could potentially blend it a bit more by adding pillows and decor in the same cool tones but I’m afraid it might make the walls feel drab. You can definitely do that style rug and definitely add blues - it’s just the cooler greyish tone in the rug that is a bit off with everything else I see.

IMO the 10 x 14 is too large for your room. The elephant in the room is that recliners.........and I already know that HE is not willing to part with it. OMG I just saw the massage recliner in the corners. He's taking a lot of real estate in this room LOL.

What about adjusting the layout? Move the sectional down to allow for the recliner at the corner. Looks like the posters might be mounted too high over the sectional also.

As for the rug, tinkdesignlive is correct about the rug being too cool for the room.

These rugs pick up the color of the brown leather and complement it with the blue and don't clash with the taupe recliner. Your furniture is modern, your rugs don't have to be 'contemporary' to give a new look to the room.

Your red/gold rug doesn't work as well with your colors.

Looks great Bev! I'm partial to the first rug you posted....and note how Bev is suggesting that the art be lowered significantly. Don't be afraid to go as low as 8" above the sofa - you want to appreciate art from the seated position.

Also - I'd suggest that the side chair Bev is showing blocked off be a blue fabric that relates to the rug. That is needed for sure. Your leather furniture will look the better for it.

Thanks for your comments. You are correct, the recliner was his from 20 years ago but he is so done with it. I am the one who wouldn’t part w it because I spent so much time w my 2 boys in that recliner when they were babies lol. You just make my husband a very happy man today - the recliner will be gone lol.

I also agree w you the loveseat might need to move down. The funny thing is the location you suggested is the exact location I had it before the whole area rug diploma started. We had the loveseat more toward the center and used to hide all those toys behind the loveseat. Since the kids are a bit older now, we just can’t help but push the loveseat all the way up to reclaim our space.

As you can see from the photo I moved it down. The only thing bothers me is that fire place is off center focal point in this layout...

Also would you suggest do a separate seating area towards the top of the room? We used to set it as a play area, it totally empty now...should we move the console by the window down and put a pouf or some low seating bench there instead?

Think, Thanks for your input, I will lower the art as soon as I stop finding those little fingerprint smudges on that wall day in and day out. Sign...How much we sacrifice for kids lol. At least I got some help from the 8 years old today to move those furniture around. I can see the light from the end of tunnel almost ;)

Have you thought about instead of a hand knotted Persian, maybe a woven tribal?
