Thats a lovely kitchen you have! My vote is No, because I think you will find something better. I agree with palimpsest. Those white frilly faux tiles are too Victorian for your rounded log walls. A wood backsplash is not unheard of. Sealed wood might be a wonderful backsplash. It sounds like your husband's style is a bit more rustic while you are a bit more cottage. Rustic Cottage can be done wonderfully. Have you thought about a stone backsplash? With your concrete counters that might look amazing. Or maybe slate? Ask your husband if he likes stone or layered stone? Wood and Stone are both rustic and cottage. I like the glass idea but I would use clear glass since your husband really likes the wood to show. I'd put something there! I didn't, on mine, and the paint *is* bubbling from heat, and there is splatter that's harder to clean off the paint. I'd do it one of a few ways: -up to the top of the cabinets and all the way out to the door (so, in front of the stove) -up to the top of the cabinets and only as far out as the front of the stove itself -up to the top of the range hood and only as far out as the front of the stove. My vote: Take a pic from far enough back to get as much of that end of the kitchen in as you can. Print out a few copies on your printer (gotta love digital cameras!) Color in the various areas w/ a crayon in some sort of sensible color. See which you like.

People use granite and quartz for backsplashes pretty frequently -- I think they're getting a thick slab for those too. I don't know how it's handled, but I'm sure that a good contractor who's done it before will know.

Going with Kendall Charcoal (BM) color (dark grey) for cabinets. Very long kitchen (30x13) with loads of natural light. Going with a white swirled countertop. Have it be the full backsplash too? I have seen some pics where this looks great. Only have 1 large piece of backsplash and that is behind stove. Rest is about 12 inches tall. Thoughts.
