Can I use brick for a vegetable garden raised bed

Is it safe to use bricks as the walls for my raised bed for vegetables? Will the brick emit unsafe materials that can leach into the soil and into the vegetables - standard vegetables (eggplant, swisschard, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, radishes, turnips, beets, etc)? I currently have a few raised beds that are made from shipping skids. They rotted quickly and are in need of replacement. I was planning to use treated lumber, but recently came upon a supply of bricks. I'm more concerned about brick material. I understand cinderblocks should not be used, as should 'older' treated lumber not be used. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.
