Need help on planting around our mobile home.. please?
Comments (2)No.. not silly to ask here at all! I actually started my gardening forays in a similar place, so it is a great place to start! There are several books and websites that cover gardening in small spaces, almost too numerous to list, but if you go to www.google.com and type in gardening small spaces, you get a very long list of sites to peruse to help get an idea of what you can do. As far as what would work well, you first need to get an idea of where you want to plant and what the conditions are for planting (IE.. how much sun, what type of soil, how much room the plants have to grow.) Also need to find out what Zone you live in. These will help in narrowing down what choices you have. From what you've stated above, I would assume that the house in front of you shades the front of your house for a bit in the early morning hours, then you'd have a few hours of morning sun and then shade for most of the afternoon. You'd probably do best with part-shade to full sun type plants. Going from memeory of my old place, I'd assume you have a long sidewalk running from the door to the roadside of the moble home, If there's a gap inbetween the sidewalk and the home, this could be one area that could be used for planting. Depending on how deep the gap is (and assuming it's at least 12" deep and not much more then that), you'd probably want to plan for some sort of repeating pattern of flowers along the walkway, since it really wouldn't be wide enough for drifts to look very good. Hopefully that will give you a place to start. Good luck and happy gardening! Here is a link that might be useful: My Gardens...See MoreNeed color help for countertop with white cabinets please
Comments (5)I think the Wilsonart "Pearl Soapstone" would look nice with what you are describing. I am also remodeling my laundry room and will have gray and black check marmoleum floors and will be choosing the pearl soapstone for the counters. My laundry room already has a cottagey feel and I think this will fit right in. Here is a link to the Wilsonart pics. Wait as the images pop up and you will be able to see a counter in the pearl soapstone. Comments (7)We got a vintage-looking range too (a burgundy Fratelli Onofri Royal Chiantishire double oven). What we found is that if you get plain-front stainless appliances, they complement the range without competing with it. By "plain front" I mean, no external ice/water or other external gizmos on the fridge, and no visible controls on the dishwasher (we got an Asko... at the link below, click on the "3" box to see a close-up of the kind of door and handle we got). On the Asko there's not even a manufacturer's name on the front--nothing--and I think it looks retro all by itself, much less in combination with the range. The other advantage of avoiding external ice/water on the fridge is that that is ALWAYS the part that breaks. You see more complaints about those than anything else, and when they break they can do major damage (one woman on here posted that her external water dispenser had leaked while they were away and destroyed her hardwood floor). Oh, speaking of leakage, both Asko and Bosch dishwashers have excellent leak protection. I would assume Miele does too. Comments (4)Thanks, these responses are really helpful! Yes, the robins egg blue paint looks horrible with the countertop. Previous owners made some highly questionable design choices. I'm thinking a light to medium gray will be much better. Thankfully we have lots of time until adolescence... hopefully I'll have gotten my wish and replaced the countertop by then!...See MoreYdahr
