Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

White cabinets and lots of honey oak trim

Hello, I have an open floor plan with family room, kitchen and sun room all connected. its all honey oak trim and cabinets throughout. I really want to paint my cabinets white but I can’t do all three rooms, it would cost a fortune. My husband also wants to keep the oak in the family room so I can’t change that. I would love to do the sunroom trim white as well but then it connects to the family room. Any thoughts? if I only did the cabinets, it would seem to be disconnected since the kitchen is in the middle of the other 2 rooms. Also, can I paint the walls white?

I think you can keep the trim oak and paint cabinets a color if you want. I like that idea better than painting trim in some rooms and not others. My opinion. trim consistent. Cabinets whatever you choose.

I have oak cabinets and worked with them as they are - though I did refinish them but kept them close to the same color. Pictures are in my "my pics" idea book in case there is something you see that is helpful. I know it is difficult to find pictures with oak cabinets right now. My trim is white. That home’s bones are really great. Avoid the new homeowner temptation to put a personal stamp on it. The home itself should tell you what suits it. In 6-12 months. Frankly, there is very little I’d change. The almost MCM vibe is it’s strength. It’s what should be celebrated and enhanced, not tried to erase. I’d never paint those original cabinets. I’d look at other cool heritage MCM homes for inspiration to keep the wood slab cabinets. And the brick. And all the rest. It’s all cooler by far that the boring 2020 paint it all white trend that is already over.

My main part of the project was removing the paneling. It dated the house and made the room darker and smaller feeling. The wood is in good shape, yes, but I think it’s the color that is also dating it. Thanks for your advice. Maybe I’ll start with cabinet and ledge, and then go from there on each remaining piece. I’m not good at deciding on things before they are done.
