Kitchens Lighting Design Dilemma

HELP pendant light size over island

Please help! I’ve chosen a pendant light we love, Hinkley Fletcher 13.5” but aren’t sure if this will be an appropriate size. Floor to ceiling is 92”. Island dimensions: 8ft Length, 4ft Width. What would be the ideal size!pendant light?

My island is about the size of yours. I’m not home right now to get exact dimensions but I’ll post a picture that will hopefully help. Our ceilings are 11 ft.

Patricia, here are some photos of the space. Thank you for your input!

Island is centered 7ft box with 12in overhang (8ft length total) making “L” shape for seating.

Wall perpendicular to window wall is thermador range/stove
Window is sink and last rectangle on that wall is 48” sub zero

over the island i would rather see something like this, than individual pendants over the isalnd. for the sink, i would do one 'down' light. 3 to me is overkill and 2 will look 'weird'. are you installing under cab lights as well? with the undercab lights, it will help with the sink area. 'down' light another example(where all the light is down in your sink - none 'escaping' up or out of course get the fixture to scale with the space.

How many and what size pendant lights should I use over my island?

Different goals come into play. Task lighting for when you work at the island counter requires 450+ lumens at the surface. The source should be placed so you don't shadow the work with your body. Ambient lighting is another objective. Recessed led cans on dimmers can do both. Pendants on dimmers or pendants and recessed lights can also do both. In addition, pendants can be decorative. Adequate task lighting is often missing in kitchen design.

Thank you! I'm not home to give dimensions for the lights. I'll hopefully remember to come back and give you a size of lights. The faucets are Moen Align one handle pulldown faucets. I have 4 of these faucets and love them.

@Leela Turunga, My ceilings are 11 foot. The pendants are a little oversized but these are the ones we wanted. I don't believe in rules anyway! ;-)
