Do you have any other trim in the house? Crown moulding or trim around the windows?

We will choose the same window and door trim to match the baseboards we choose. I’m leaning toward the one on the right but worry it’s a dated design.

Personally I prefer the one on the left, but I think I tend not to like rounded details. I also think it reads more transitional with the right one looking a bit more traditional but that again is a personal opinion

I also prefer the one in the left. I don’t care for the shadow created by the rounded top. Also, one on left looks easier to keep clean.

We’re installing 5 1/4 white baseboards throughout our house was wondering do you need to use the round shoe type trim? Tend to see a lot of it in pictures and would rather not use it.

Tina I’m facing the same, shoe Moulding is used to cover the gap/shadow between the base Moulding and the flooring. The gap is caused by unevenness in the floors so as an example my house is 100 years old and there was no way we would completely avoid that. I can see the gap/shadow in places as the new floors and Moulding are in, I could live with it but it’s likely we’ll get shoe

From what I’ve seen shoe options are limited in look, but not so much that there’s only one option. Here is the shoe we’ll likely use, one of the few I saw that didn’t have that round look

@tina Shoe molding is often added if there are imperfections that need to be hidden (gaps between floor and baseboard) If your floor went in before the baseboards you shouldn’t need the shoe mold. (I also prefer without, plus it’s less to clean)

I do hate that the right one traps a lot of dust. My sister has them. I think I like the look of chunky trim and that’s why I was leaning to the right one. I do see that the left one looks more transitional now. Does it look cheap and thin though? Will it chip easier if a toy is banged into it? I have 3 little kids who love to play rough on the floor. 😒
