Ideas for finishing Living Room
Comments (31)KelliC. If the walls around your fireplace stay the the same paint color as the room, what you need above the fireplace are objects of strong contrast to the paint, like the woven patterned baskets, or the assemblage I illustrated combining 3 prints and the twig/bamboo wall sculpture or something like this large and full of contrast and color. This mirror you found with the silver, rather traditional frame compared to your other furnishings, will just blend into the wall, and really do not much to add texture and interest to your room. It appears to me that you have traditional objects in the dining room and then contemporary objects in the living room. I think you have to make up your mind which direction your heading....See MoreTo finish or not to finish: basement laundry room
Comments (10)I sold my house with an unfinished basement this past summer that was located in Northern VA. I would recommend you finish off your laundry space for your own enjoyment, not necessarily because it may add value. Your descriptions of the space and your comments lead me to believe you would like to have that renovation for yourself. You can replace the concrete sink with a sink/cabinet from Lowes/Home Depot for a couple of hundred dollars. As others pointed out, you can brighten up the space for minimal outlay. (Definitely get rid of that floor before you market your house. Buyers do notice dirt and perceived lack of maintenance. Keeping my house clean and maintained was how I was able to get it sold in a soft market last summer, despite the disadvantage of the unfinished basement)....See MoreI need ideas in finishing my living room
Comments (13)I think what bothers me most about your room is the coffee table and the rug. Plus I find your room quite matchy matchy. Everything is angular, very hard looking and high contrast. I would replace the coffee table with something minimalistic in wood and glass, and perhaps round. The rug is the same colour as the floor. I'd replace with something with colour. Perhaps choose your large art first then take a colour from there for the rug. The large black pillows on the couch look like tomestones lined up. I'd switch those out for colours & patterns. Your room has no lighting, how about a floor lamp with a big swing arm that hangs over the coffee table? Don't do plants. They won't jive with your modern minimalist style. You have good bones here. The couch & chaise go well together....See MoreLooking for ideas to finish off the powder room
Comments (3)Looks great! You can add a rug to add some personality but not a necessity. However, I would be careful on a slate blue or grey. Just make sure they are not too cool of a color in comparison to all the great warm tones in your flooring and wall color....See Morenjmomma
