What color perimeter cabinets with BM salamander island?

First off, I am not wanting white cabinets AT ALL. I have been loving the rift sawn oak cabinets I've been seeing. I love black. I love blue. I love green. I would love to do all of the cabinets in salamander, but my husband won't go for it. I've agreed to compromise and just have it on the island. He wants white perimeter, but I won't! I could be ok with a greige maybe, a warm gray.

Throw me all of your ideas!!

Oooh Salamander what a great color!

What about BM Pale Oak (warm undertone greige), or a very muted light green-gray like Farrow & Ball Pigeon?

Would Husband consider Salamander on all the lowers and a light color on uppers?

What kind of sunlight do you get in the room?

What about just doing wood perimeter cabinets? That could look really nice with the deep green of BM Salamander on the island. I don't know what the rest of your kitchen plan is but wood perimeter cabinets and dark green island would look good with white countertops and white walls. For backsplash you could do white or even a deep green to pull in the island color - Fireclay Tile has some beautiful green tiles.

When I was making my final decisions I almost went with white perimeter and white island with a wood stained counter on the island to set it off. I think that's a pretty look too. I got some design advise that lead me to doing a natural cherry island with a counter that matched the white perimeter cabinets. I'm very happy with the result. I do think the island takes the most abuse and it's definitely hidden better by the cherry. Also like the quartz counters. With little kids they just feel less worrisome to me. I really don't think it's a look that will go out any sooner than the rest of the kitchen will.

Start with a very quiet quartz in shades of white or cream. Try brown if your kitchen gets a lot of light and you want more contrast. I have Caesarstone Buttermilk on my natural cherry cabs.

Brittanica island, need perimeter/white cabinet paint suggestions

I agree with only using Brittanica on the island. I also like that MSI Quartz and had not seen that! If we did go with Brittanica for the island what cabinet paint color would you recommend instead? I am nervous about the yellow, but can't seem to find a good color match. Thanks! If we did two different counters I will do the island white as well.

May I just reiterate how grateful I am for the input? cpartist, I have attached a picture of the tile on the fireplace (were you asking me about the tile or the wall color?). I had purchases the 12x12 samples from Samplize and loved the look of Revere Pewter in there on then walls, but did not like it in the kitchen. I thought Edgecomb gray looked nice in the kitchen, and I put that sample next to the tile in various locations, and thought it looked nice. So I had planned on using White Dove for the cabinets, as I thought it looked perfect in the space and worked with both the countertop and the backsplash. But then I hired a color consultant that came recommended from several friends. I was unimpressed with her. She thought that White Dove would not work because she thought it would bother me that my trim on the windows and on the pantry door did not match the cabinet color and she recommended Chantilly Lace. In my opinion, Chantilly Lace looks too white. I have a sample of White Dove, and I think it looks well with both the backsplash and the counter. I could hire another color consultant, but I was completely turned off by the earlier experience. Beth has me wanting to check out other whites, such as Simply White and Oxford White. I had found a Design Dilemma thread where the question was "Simply White or White Dove," and the majority (overwhelming majority) said they liked Simply White more than White Dove. Do you have an opinion on that? I am totally open to trying colors other than White Dove, but, again, I thought it worked until the color consultant told me she thought it would bother me. I do not want to repaint all my trim. Do you think my cabinets can be a little off white and have it look okay with the trim around the windows and the pantry door? Should I consider painting my pantry door (versus the trim)?

@rebasheba , I'm not sure how I feel about lower and uppers being different colors. It feels a bit trendy to me? What do you think? I like pale oak a lot!

The lighting - the kitchen has none of it's own outside windows, but has a dining nook adjacent with three large windows. The kitchen is open to the family room, which has a 20 x 17 screened in porch with 8' tall 12' wide sliders.

@Ivy Lou I am leaning towards all wood perimeter. We haven't picked out counters or backsplash yet. I'm not sure how I feel about plain white countertops - was thinking a granite with a bit of movement in it. any ideas?

Well, I decided against two-tone for my own kitchen on the grounds that it's too small for that to make any sense.

I like the idea of green with natural wood too!

@rebasheba - i like the wood with the green as well.

Our floors are white oak with an ash craft oil finish. So pretty light. What are the rules on matching wood cabinets to floors? I've always struggled with that!

Yeah, not plain white, but white as the main color in the counters. So a granite or quartz that is primarily white with gray movement in it would be nice. You could probably do a black granite that has some green in it too, but just depends on the other elements you choose and the lighting you get in the kitchen.

You can take your white oak floor sample to where you're getting your cabinets and try to match or something that compliments. If you have a cabinet maker you are speaking with, they might be able to help.

Something that helps me with matching questions is that materials need to be "sisters, not twins" -- they should look like they belong together, but things don't need to match exactly to look nice together.

I think your floor will act like a neutral here, does that seem right?

@Ivy Lou yes I have the floor sample, so that will be very helpful! Your idea about what type of granite is what I was thinking.

@rebasheba I agree about the sisters comment! I'm just having a hard time figuring out what I like. I'm kind of picky and I feel like I don't have a "style." When I like it, I know.

The floors will definitely act like a neutral. The won't stand out (except for their beauty!)

I have a stainless sink, faucet, and appliances. I would like to bring in a warmer metal, maybe brass, for the cabinet pulls. I think I will have very simple glass globe pendants over the island. The adjacent dining nook will probably have a brass fixture, to tie together the cabinet pulls.
