Where is the best entry for a kids playroom
Comments (2)I think there are a couple of things to consider. If the door is in the dining room, will you lose a part of a length of wall that would be the insightful place for a sideboard or other piece of furniture. If the door is in the living room, will you throw off the symmetry of the room (you could add a built in on the other side of the fireplace to correct this.) If the door is in the living room, you will have some degree of a sight line into the room to supervise when you are in the living room, and the kitchen, but not when in the dining room. As you probably spend more time in the kitchen proper and the living room, this may prove more useful. You already have a doorway to the porch in the dining room. Adding another in the DR may make the dining room feel like a passageway. Or one thought you could also could also consider would be doors in both DR and LR, thus allowing for perfect circulation on the floor. French doors would be nice for this, and that will also allow additional light into the new addition. I also might add that even though you have heard it many times, kids grow really fast. Size/scale the space for 4 adults, not 2 adults and 2 kids. By the time kids are in 4th grade, they physically take up as much "space" as an adult...See Morenewbie** Layout ideas for small/ functional Living/Play room!(PIC
Comments (15)Ok, wasn't gone that long. In the meantime, could you put your sofa on angle toward the tv? Just line it up with the rug. Take your leather chair and place it along the short side of the rug next to the window. If your small table will fit in the corner of the sofa and chair that would be a good place for it. Oh, and if what I think I'm seeing next to the tv(stacked suitcases) you could put those in that corner instead. The decorative key might look good above the cut out to the kitchen...hung long ways. Take down the art print on the wall next to the cutout and arrange a collection of your photos. Try not to go hang any higher than the the print currently is and have the bottom of your last frame hit below the height of the bottom of the cutout. I know this isn't what you were asking for, but while you're planning room layout and the more permanent direction you want to go in...there is no reason you can't try something different with what you have right now....See Moreliving room/playroom layout
Comments (8)Cute pooch. Is the eighteen feet from the by window to the tv? If so, you could leave six feet between the back of the sofa (centered with the bay window) and the bay window for your play area. Then use the rest of the area for your living room space. If you want to try centering the back of the sofa across from the bay window, then measure the space between the side of the sofa and the wall with the two smaller windows. It may be that you have room there to place your desk/table with metal legs in that spot with its chair sitting in the play area. A tall thin metal lamp with large white shade on it could serve the living room as well as the desk. If not, find another side table/cabinet for that space for that purpose. You could plan a place in the play room for a bed for the family pet. Underneath the bay window, you might want a window seat that doubles as toy storage, preferably with front doors if the children are small. A top lid can pinch little fingers. https://angelarosehome.com/ikea-besta-bench-hack-with-diy-cushion/ Unless you're wanting a wall to wall built in underneath the bay window -- if you're wanting separate pieces of furniture, then on each side of the window seat, you might consider tall shallow cabinets with solid doors at the bottom for some hidden storage) and either open shelves or glass doors above for displaying family photographs and family treasures....See MoreLiving room/playroom layout
